Whats are you guys' opinions in Rem primers. Did they work well for you? Similar to other brands? Any ruptures?

After having a few Win LRP rupture I think it might be worth asking about before buying.

Also same question for Federal.

Both are good primers. Some of my older revolvers prefer the Federal because they are a little softer but it’s not much of a difference.

Never had any issues with Remington primers, other than availability. Remington 7 1/2 are my favorite for .223/5.56 loads. As for large rifle primers, my personal order of preference would be Federal 210, CCI-200, Remington 9 1/2 for .243 Win, .270 Win and .308. For .270 WSM and .300 Win Mag I like Federal 215, CCI-250 and Remington 9 1/2M. I have used Winchesters in the past, but have had issues with more recent production. Honestly, over the past 5 years, I have been happy to find anything at a decent price, and have overpaid for large rifle primers just to make sure I have a decent supply.

Remmy 7 1/2 primers are top notch for any round that requires a small rifle primer. My other favorites would be Federal, then CCI. I have some Winchesters but have had some issues with them in some rounds.

I’ve only used a few sleeves of 5 1/2 sp, with no issues. I believe Remington has different numbers but don’t know all the ins and outs of which ones to use.

I have used quite a few Remington and Federal primers with no problems. Back when I was competing the Federal Gold Metal Match primer was considered the gold standard. I have had a few problems with Winchester primers. Had to spend money to have a bolt face repaired.

My favorites have always been CCI and if you could look into my components closet thats what you would see the most of. But there are also Federal, Fiocchi, Magtec, Remington and Winchester.

Comparing Rem 7 1/2, CCI BR4, 400, and 450, Federal 205M and 205, and Winchester WSR, Remington 7 1/2’s in my 6 Dasher produced the worst velocity dispersion out of all 7 primers tested. Between Fed 210’s, WLR’s, CCI BR2’s and 200’s, and REM 9 1/2’s, Rem 9 1/2’s were 2nd to worst for consistency in my 243win, only ahead of WLR’s.

I've never had any problem with Remington, other than that some of my race guns won't set them off reliably.

I've tended to rely upon Federal. Their pistol primers will go off even with half-baked springs, and their 215 has the horsepower for even massive charges of slow rifle powders. Outside of those extremes, though, I haven't found any primer from a major manufacturer that won't work perfectly well.

thats what i started with. i like the 1500 count bricks. im down to 300.
Fiocchi primers are reliable, but a little milder than others. If you run lighter loads, your autoloading pistols may not function with 100% reliability. You also might lose 50 fps or so off top end loads. I have a couple thousand on hand, but reserving them for target plinking type loads.

I stay away from Rem and Fed pistol primers. Rifle versions may be better - I figured if their postol versions didn't work well for me I didn't need to waste money on the rifle type. Rem CF rifle ammo used to work fine though but I don't know about the newer ownership(s). The ones I liked had dupont on the box.

When I buy LRPs its CCI BR2. Sometimes it comes down to what you can get though especially with LRPs. I've been shooting more Win primers lately but I got a bad batch of those in LRMPs about a year ago - the newer ones have been okay though.

Another fan of Rem 7 1/2 for 223, especially with 748. Tried their LP primers once, but got slightly lower velocity's than Fed 150 (which am preferring). Never tried their SP's , but rely on Fed for sp and spm.
