Remington r51

I read that they are going back to the drawing board on it. They are giving refunds for the pistols already out there. If I had one I would keep it. Even though its a dud, It will be a rare model 20+ years from now.

Remington has issued a statement about the poor or uneven quality of the R51 and has offered to replace all that are sent back with a new R51 like the prototypes. Mine has been sent and received, now the wait.

I haven't given up all. Mine was returned shortly after I purchased it in March. The first CS communication from them came last week; I received a letter stating that they are committed to quality and will be shipping me a new R51 after production restarts in October. While I did not think this scenario was likely when I decided to order, I knew it was a possibility. I can't miss what I never had....and as frustrating as similar waits are for some, this is nothing compared to a couple of custom rifle build projects I've had.

I saw a flyer from Remington that they expect to renew production of the R51 in October.

Mine works fine and will probably keep it. I have 400 trouble free rounds or so through it.

Finally got hold of Remington today, they are sending a call tag.

While mine has seen a trouble free 200 or so rounds, I was disappointed in the fit and finish compared to the one a friend had purchased which he kindly let me shoot. His gun was pretty skookum, mine looked like a Monday hangover made gun by comparison.

I hope round two shows that Rem can get this right. I have yet to find a 9mm in that size and weight range I can shoot as naturally and accurately as the R51.

According to the Remington website they are going to replace the R 51"s with a new one. Expected to start sending out the new ones in October. They give this # to call. 800-243-9700

By context, I assume skookum is 'really awesome' ?

"I have yet to find a 9mm in that size and weight range I can shoot as naturally and accurately as the R51."
This times a large number. With all the mindless "it's a junky design with no redeemable qualities" derping out there, it is very important to remember that lots of people were initially not only really excited (they always are), but for really good reasons for a change;

-Low bore, allowing full grip for a compact single stack
-Factory dehorning for carry (why hasn't this been a standard option since the '70's?)
-+P ammo rated (others are catching up, but this was fairly significant in January)
-Low recoil for its size/weight
-Single action trigger capable of being very high quality if desired
-Intuitive safety, minimalist manual of arms
-Metallic frame as ergonomic as modern polymer mouldings
-Fixed barrel, allowing limitless suppression/compensation/lengthening

Oddly, I don't recall anyone spoiling in anticipation for the extremely high quality expected of modern Remington ;). Somehow, those same people don't understand that bad quality of production is independent of the actual benefits listed above, and that they can't be realized until quality is improved. Fix that one thing (so easy, right? :D) and Remington instantly has a winner again --right?

I almost wish I bought one of the first run now.

What could be better than an R51 that works, 2 free mags, and a Pelican case?

Man, this thing's a carry gun. The case is nice (and comically huge), but why isn't Remington compensating us with a holster? I'm not sure their advertising execs have learned much, yet... Heck, comp us those laser-guard thingies, to get those out the door. I suspect Crimson Trace (and Galco) is regretting ever giving Remington the time of day by now ("sell a million of them" you said; "fool proof strategy to have them ready for the rollout" you said...)

barnbwt I too was wondering what I'm going to do with that big Pelican case. Fifty bucks off on a laser would work for me.
