Remington R51

LOL, as do I. I have no issues at all with the pistol, but I curse every time I disassemble it.

George, I have acquired many of those Remington offferings...a couple of R1 .45 ACP, a Rm 380, R 51, DPMS AR, several Bushmasters and probably more with all the companies they gobbled up. In fact the AAC 300 Blackout Handi Rifle i am holding in the photo is a Rem holding company.
The one thing i can say aboutall of them is they are well made and have functioned flawlessly. My R51 does not get five stars from me though, not because of a function or manufacturing problem but because my arthritic hands have a hard time with reassembly.
I was serioully looking at that one also, the price was right, But I have also heard this from others, and also that the gun get's dirty quickly, due to the gas assisted system. If thst id true, perhspd it's s pass. The M&P is down below $300, and it seems like most guns other than the high end stuff, is in free fall.

I know people have said that the gun gets dirty quickly, but I don't see it any dirtier than any other guns. They all get dirty quickly.

I have shot hundreds of rounds through my pistol and cleaned it probably four times, simple wipe of internal parts and a patch down the barrel, lube everything and after my share of obscenities it is back together. Nothing unusual about the cleaning process or amount of grime encountered.

Yeah, it seems no dirtier than a typical locked-breech recoil operated gun, because the breech remains sealed the same amount of time, I guess, so the blowby is similar.

Haven't seen anything recently about the R51.....can anyone update their experience with it for the last couple months?

I had mine at the range last weekend. Still shooting great. Really nothing to report, it hits where I aim.

As one who owns one, all I can say is no news is good news especially with a group of carnivores like we have on boards like these.

I have shot my buddy's R-51 a few times. Only with warm or hot ammo. It conceals well, but I have big hands and for some reason or another the gun whacks my hand funny while shooting. I was seeing mediocre accuracy with the ammo we had on hand.

I have had mine for a few months now. Initially it suffered from the occasional FTE, nose dive and random other failures. I then polished the inside top of the magazine and shortened the follower by 1/8th of an inch. For the last 400 plus rounds it has worked flawlessly. It is accurate and easy to shoot.

My R51 is terrible. It went back to the factory once and they did nothing to it but shoot it, and possibly replaced the rubber part under the extractor. They chose a rubber cushion part in place of a metal spring under the extractor, "REALLY" lets see how long that lasts with gun solvents. Jammed constantly with everything. FTeject, Nose Dives, Ejecting live ammo while shooting. I sent pic's of the problems and they didn't seem to care, so I only shoot it at the range now. My Kel Tec PF9 & Ruger LC9 shoot awesome, so they get the carry nod. The R51 is the same size as my Glock 19, so why bother. Too bad, I did and still do like the ascetics of the R51. Way too many issues and this gun is still not ready for prime time in my opinion.

I've owned the second iteration of the R51 since it was first released. It shoots to point of aim, has never experienced a FTF or a jam in approximately 450 assorted rounds, and alternates as a favored concealed carry piece.
