Remington, Savage, or Tikka

I want a 22-250. Which one would you get? Why?? It'll be used for range shooting (max 200 yards) and occassionally for coyote, bobcat, PD, etc.

I hate Savage rifles. The one I had was a complete POS...I have yet to handle a Tikka...I love Rem 700 rifles. I have yet to find one that didn't shoot well, and they are very easy to get replacement or upgrade parts for. There is a reason the 700 is the best selling rifle in America...is handles great, actions are smooth and is the most reliable rifle I have shot.

I have a package series .223 110FXP3 that I got for free, its stock been mangled by a poor bipod installation and I've fired the snot out've it. It is still deadly accurate and has taken every coyote which have filled its crosshairs, my next bolt gun will be a Savage.

Well, I know this is not the point of the poll, but that Tikka gets my vote for the ugliest rifle of the available choices. Man, if that thing was a monkey I'd shave it's ..... and teach it to walk backwards.

Now, if it were me buying the rifle it would be the Remington, for the simple reason that you will never be sorry and 700 is hardly ever a bad answer to any question that has bolt action rifle in it. I have a pretty decent shooting Savage .22-250 (nowhere near new) and my best friend in the whole wide world has a heavy barrel 700 in .22-250 that is nowhere near new either. I would trade him in a heartbeat and pay money to do it, but that will never happen.

Savage, at this point Savage is as good if not better than remington in the QC Dept. and has a high likelihood of being a more accurate rifle. and you pay less for it.

i've shot both the rem VLS and the Savage 12BVSS and unless you have to hike to your firing point (the BVSS gets HEAVY), it i find the savage to be a better rifle for targets and varmint hunting, mainly b/c the stock provides a more stable and, for me, more comfortable platform to shoot from a bench or prone.

i've owned two savages and was not disappointed with either, my last a 12FV was capable of less than 1/2 MOA(if I can shoot under 1/2" at 100 with a given rifle, it'll do for all but the most perfectionist shooter).

if your gonna go in the field with it, the tikka weighs 4 lbs less. otherwise the savage.plus the xtra 2 in of bbl in a 22 250 means and xtra 200 fps at the muzzle.

Take the Tikka. It has to be one of the smoothest actions I have felt- Sako and some custom rifles are the only ones that feel better to me. You also get a guarantee of 1" groups @ 100 yds. from the Tikka and you will find that many groups will be better than that. My 300wsm will shoot 3/8" groups and will do it until I am tired of shooting. Highly recommend this rifle.

I have had more problems with Remington- new rifles from the factory- than any other manufacturer. I would pick the Savage as my second choice.

I owned a 700 VLS in .223 and once I finally managed to float the barrel it proved to be the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. Rem 700s , it seems ,are junk to many but all the ones I have owned or fired belonging to other shooters have provided me with a high level of accuracy.

I would like to try the Savage out one of these days. For the price of the VLS you get a rifle with a barrel that is already free floated , stainless steel and an easy to adjust trigger.

Sako or Tikka have a great reputation for accuracy although I never fired any of their centerfire rifles.

From my own experience I have had great luck with the 700 but the Savage has a lot of appeal as well.

Assuming these to be the only options, I would go with the Tikka, the deciding factor being the weight. I would much prefer a 6-lb rifle to a 10-lb.

Wrong Tikka.

If you can find 'em, you're looking for the Tikka Model 595 Master Sporter, predecessor to the current Tikka T-3 line, although Tikka has yet to come out with a precision/target model since the 595:

I like the 595 Continental better than the el cheapo T3 with all the plastic.

Owned a Rem VLS in .308 and it was a shootin' demon!

I really like tha Savage 12BVSS. NIce heavy stock looks good a has reputation as a great shooter to boot. I especially like the idea of an easily adjusted trigger.

You should also take a look at the CZ 550 Varmint. I've heard good things about them also.

For me I would get the Savage

A Rem 700 or a Savage is never a bad choice...
BUT, the T3 is head and shoulders above the others in quality.

It comes with a 1MOA guarantee, is smoother than the others, has a 70 degree bolt lift, Sako style extractor (of course), and weighs less.

You always hear the Rem 700 guys talk about how well their guns shoot...after a trigger job freefloating and handloads.
You never hear a T3 owner giving those little disclaimers do you?

My T3 Lite shoots 0.3-0.5MOA consistently with Black Hills 168gr BTHP Match ammo and I haven't modified it at all.
Imagine what the Varmint can do.

Yet another vote for Savage, for the price, trigger and accuracy. I have a Model 12 and it has been flawless. The accuracy is great and so is the trigger. You won't regret it!

I voted Remington... my VLS in .223 shot .5-MOA out of the box, has a great trigger (no work!) and is very accepting of various bullet weights... I've had good results with everything from 45 grain to 62 grain.
