Remington to re-release R51 later this year!

I call them every once in a while and get the same stupid party line.
Can't be overstated how painfully tonedeaf Remington has been throughout this affair. I'll be holding it against them long after/if they ever resolve the R51's problems; I'd have forgiven them in advance if they'd bothered to be straight with us customers, lay out a gameplan, and make regular updates with evidence showing their progress. You know, the same way all delinquent vendors are overseen by their customers if they don't plan to go bankrupt.

Are you planning on sending yours in for a replacement if they ever ship the gen 2 guns?
I'll reply with your own quote: 'They won't give me my gun back and they won't replace it.' ;) --I would consider selling my gun after buying a new one; I can afford to have a little extra money tied up for a short while on my terms. I won't be tying it up on Remington's.

Some twenty years ago, on a visit to the Glock plant in Austria, I was flabbergasted at the machinery.

The machines were ran with Computers, 24 blank slides were fastened on to a capstan? switched on, 6 hours later, the slides were completed.

Tools were replaced, or sharpened, automatically, every part was identical! When the staff went home at night, machines loaded up, switched on, done.

In the morning, unloaded, reloaded. The plant closes in the Summer, for a month.

Its late now, hope this post made sense!

Shouldn't they call it something other than it's previous name? Sigma S&W's could never shake their bad image, even though they turned into reliable decent guns, for the money.

Kind of a related funny story, I just picked up a "new" gun from the FFL. I bought it on gunbroker. It's a cheap old Saturday night special called a....Titanic! Can you think of a more confidence inspiring name than THAT?? :D

It's a 5 shot .32 long revolver that was imported by FIE. I can't wait to shoot it. Should be fun...as long as there aren't any icebergs floating by. :D

But it does show that name recognition and association matter.

Truthfully - though I'd probably wait for at least a few reviews - I'd give the R51 re-released a shot. They know that the original bombed and if they release it again it HAS to be right. That its taking so long to rerelease to me indicates that they're not rushing them back out.

Now, its possible that they're taking their time, or that the design simply can't be made right, or that they've just given up on it, but in the later two cases I don't think the gun will ever see the retain chain again, so I'm optimistic that if it goes on sale, it'll be fixed. Still - I'll give it at least a month or two before I took the plunge myself :).

Came across one of those in a LGS just yesterday.

'Phoenix' was always my favorite, seeing as the company has closed up shop amid legal troubles and reopened so many times :D (almost as many as Hesse/Vulcan/Blackthorne/etc./etc./future etc.)

this is sooooooooooooooooooooooo tempting...I think I'll pass.

Probably be better served buying a Jimenez or two. tat way I have a spare when the first one is on its way to the factory getting repaired. should have a better turnaround time than the R51.

I'm late to this thread, found it in a site search. I was wondering about the R51 as mine was sent back to Remington so long ago I forgot I even owned one.

What is the latest re-release date, if there is one?

T'ain't one. Only rumors, same as last year, and the year before that. "Second quarter" though we're already getting to the end of it with no tangible news...

If you've already given up your gun, I'd just as soon get a refund or 1911 out of it rather than be strung along; you can always put it toward the new model if it ever gets produced (as opposed to the interest-free loan you're currently giving Big Green)

You guys (collectively) should get together and file a class action suite, or file a formal complaint with the NY State Attorney's Office. They would have least had to make a reply they could be held to. This has come to the point where fraud charges could come down. :uhoh:

On what basis? Anybody who wants one can get a refund or a replacement 1911 with a retail value higher than their original purchase.

If they haven't worked the design/manufacturing flaws out (and it's POSSIBLE that they may never) you can't really insist on a replacement R-51, and they've already offered a financially equitable alternative option.

I was unaware of the above. Anyway if it was me I'd get my money back PDQ and thereafter reconsider buying what is now a lemon after it was well proven that the issues had all been worked out.

A friend of mine received this response from Remington March 28, 2016, his question "where's my R51?".

Good morning,

The R51 did get approved out of R&D. We are looking at this quarter-first of the 3rd quarter of these guns being shipped out. If you would like to do the R1 trade we can process that still, but if you would like to wait for your R51 then we can continued to wait. Just giving you an update on the R51 approval.

Thank you and best regards,

I have had two contacts know tell me that the Remington Plant in Huntsville will start releasing R51 9mm from their plant in June of this year.

I have one POC at the Plant, and I was talking to a customer service rep about a shotgun part and asked and was also told to expect them out in June of this year.:what:

Hoping to see them:confused:

It's not that I don't believe you...it's just that there is absolutely no evidence to suggest Remington has done anything with the program, let one will be shipping in a month. Also scant acknowledgment the program still even exists.

Pictures, and preferably video, of the production line, Remington, would be greatly appreciated. They owe us that much after two years of BS (notably, a recent factory tour of the AL facility by TFB did not show any evidence of R51 production whatsoever, a rather conspicuous absence in an otherwise thorough article)

This rumour does at least suggest it's being worked on (two years without even production line rumors was very worrisome)

Methinks I'll methink about getting one of these till they can methink a way to methink the quality control. Methinks.

Fortunately I didn't bite on the R51 bait. Thank goodness...

Instead I thought I could trust the tried and true S&W name and bought an M640 "Pro Series" revolver! It is on it's fourth trip back to the mothership to fix issues.

They all have their lapses... Some are worse than others.

So, I was just fooling around with my R51 barrel, and realized they can be made from 1" barrel blanks; I think I'm gonna try to make a threaded barrel in the near future

Can someone explain why there is so much interest in the R51 especially when so many great pocket 9's already exist out there? What's so novel about this? For exame and MP Shield eats anything, conceals easy, is a breeze to shoot all day if one wants, and can be found easy under $350.

Lower bore axis is one big factor. Pocket pistols with the common locked-breech, tilting barrel design have locking and recoil parts above the trigger and below the barrel. The R51 relocates those parts, reducing the distance of the barrel above the trigger. Compared to a pistol of the same overall height (i.e. Shield), the R51 has a longer grip; compared to a pistol with the same grip length, the R51's overall height is shorter.

Low recoil
Low bore
Easily suppressed
Pedersen action (little data obviously, but theoretically has several benefits)
Easier to cycle
Thin profile
Very comfortable ergonomics, and a full length grip unlike most compacts
All edges dehorned for carry
Single stack 9mm (less common before the G43)
Single action, grip safety only (happy median of manual & no safety)
Hammer fired SAO (potential for a nice trigger is there)
Lightweight, but all metal construction
Handles 9mm +P (and comfortably, too)

It had a whole lot going for it back in 2014, and Remington did its best, but its best was an idiot.

Any day now!!!

Just bumping this to the top to remind everyone that they said 'shipping in June'...and it's June so I'm so excited!! Should be seeing them any day now! Right? Or, is anyone feeling that nagging suspicion of doubt that they might not be going to ship this month?

You know...it's one thing if someone asks 'when' and you tell them 'we don't know', but giving a date...which then gets blown off...only makes you look bad, and if they don't ship this month they'll look worse than they did. Is that even possible?:)
