Remington to re-release R51 later this year!

Just bumping this to the top to remind everyone that they said 'shipping in June'...and it's June so I'm so excited!! Should be seeing them any day now! Right? Or, is anyone feeling that nagging suspicion of doubt that they might not be going to ship this month?

No. Don't you know Remington already said they'd be shipping in October of 2014?

How does THAT prove they won't be shipping THIS YEAR?
OTOH, I haven't any idea when they WILL ship so perhaps I should keep my big yap closed and slink away in shame........

You obviously missed my sarcasm and the fact that Remington can't be trusted to provide an accurate date for when they will fix the R51's problems and reintroduce this pistol to market.

I really like the R51 design, but the execution... er... "not so good" as they say. Hopefully they can make it better this year.

It'll be a long while before I consider one. I'd like to see a year minimum of solid reviews before I would trust that they've ironed out the kinks.

That's Remington's line

Except they don't. They keep lying about when they will fix the pistols they have and reintroduce new R51s to the market.

In reality, it appears that they either have no idea how they are going to fix these pistols, or no intention to actually follow through and do so.

I hope they get this worked out and the gun back into circulation. I like that it's a metal pistol and a different design from the Browning system; variety is always good.

If it works, it will be a very unique pistol, which is always a good thing to see.

Remington+R51 = laughing matter

The subject R51 and the name Remington should be forever appear together as their failure when people searching the world wide web.

I doubt they will ever release a new version of the R-51

The recall isn't even listed on the Remington Arms official web site
Just getting to this page is an effort of determination

I think they really want you to turn in your defect and let them replace it with a 1911 or get a refund so they can let this nightmare mistake just go away.

Oddly, the r51pistol link you posted has a new message only just this morning (10-JUN-16). It claims in strong terms Remington will be shipping the new R51 to that poster and perhaps to other R51 owners who shipped them back to remington 2 years ago.

I have no vested interest here, but being very satisfied with my RM380 I am interested in seeing vids and real performance reviews of the new R51.... if all is as it seems.

We'd have a picture of version 2.0 by now if shipment was immenent. In 40yrs, Remington will compensate all buyers per a massive class action suit ;)

I was originally interested in the reuse of the Pedersen action, but very disappointed in the final form, not to mention its poor quality.
I am not a prospect. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Just curious, how so? Was the R51 ultimately a bit larger than you'd have preferred, or something? I personally thought the design/function side of things was actually pretty ideal, and fairly unparalleled by the competition at its debut (I think S&W had a grip-safety-only 9mm, but that was it)

Eh, if you don't let them fool you, you won't have to worry about getting fooled a second time. If they ever ship another round, we'll know very (and I suspect VERY) quickly whether or not we have a dusky jewel, or unpolished turd.

Heck, I knew within about 2 weeks the R51 was comically FUBARed, and then bought one fully informed nonetheless --many more chose not to.

Hopefully for the people that have been playing this game with Remington for 2+ years now will get what they have wanted.
After watching this fiasco play out, I am done with any interest in any Remington product.

You know...I'd really like to see them get a working pistol out to the public, or declare once and for all that they've given up on it. For years it's been debated just how effective the Pederson lock really was in the original 51's as they're just a tiny bit smaller than a straight blow-back can be built. Look how much smaller and lighter the P32 and P3AT's are!

When I first saw the release of the Pederson lock in a small 9mm pistol..I thought 'NOW we'll get to see how this really works!' And...now with every day it's becoming more and more obvious that engineering this pistol to work is not an easy task! Imagine the embarrassment at Remington every time someone calls or writes about this gun! Surely if it were reasonably possible to build and sell them...they would have by now? I really, really hope to be proven wrong by them offering a totally reliable little Pederson locked 9mm...and would actually go and buy one myself. It's always been a curiosity to me and having one in the safe with all the others would give me pleasure.

Got me to wondering WHO at Remington is going to be forced to make the call on the pistol? Is this a hot potato that's being kicked around from engineering to production to inspection and around and around with nobody wanting to be the one who calls STOP!! Hope some insiders will document this whole affair for historians to maybe learn something from it as well as satisfy all of our curiosities.

HEY! GUESS WHAT??!!??

I got an e-mail from Remington stating my R51 is ready for shipment!!
Are you surprised -- or are you SURPRISED!!?????!!?!?:p

And I suspect the others here who returned their pistols for replacement will soon be getting similar e-mails! :D

What say ye, ye doubters?:cool:

OK OK I'll shut up now ....

Congratulations and best of luck with your new gun. Please keep us posted on how it shoots.

still pinching me to make sure this is not a dream,
yes, I got the same e-mail this morning too....I am so exciting!!!
I missed my R51 exactly 1year and 1 week to today.

Guys, PLEASE keep us updated as to the quality of the new R-51s. Please let us know if they have any issues. Thanks, and congrats (hopefully)! :D

I received my notification today as well; called and set up shipment to my LGS.
Since it is not the same firearm I sent them it has to go thru the whole transfer process again, which Remington is covering.
It's been a long 2 year and 3 month wait...I wish I worked in a manufacturing industry that worked at that pace.......

I will believe when:
1) I see them returned
2) They are not the same guns that were sent back (i.e. made like POS)

We'll see...
