Sent an email to Joe Barton last week about losing my vote if he votes for second amendment restrictions.

Dear Mr. possom813:

Thank you for contacting me with your opinion on Second Amendment issues. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you.

The right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution, and I am a consistent supporter of that right. I believe that violent crime must be reduced, but I will not support measures that infringe upon the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.

I support an individual's right to defend themselves, their family, and their property with a legally obtained firearm. This right is put in jeopardy by those advocating stricter control measures. The gun control movement hurts law-abiding citizens and businesses, not the criminals who care nothing for the law. I believe we can better reduce the misuse of firearms by strongly enforcing laws already on the books and maintaining responsible judiciaries.

Again, thank you for sharing your opinion with me. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Joe Barton
Member of Congress

Doesn't sound near as weaselly as the response I got from my representative. Pretty straight forward and he didn't use the hated code phrase 'common sense' once.

"Doesn't sound near as weaselly as the response I got from my representative."

I live in California, and my politicians are *never* weaselly when I write them a pro-gun letter. They tell me, most directly, that I can go #$%@ myself. I *dream* of getting letters like the OP's from a California politician.

Form Letter FTW!

Question is - do you get the same form letter if you write an ANTI 2nd comment?

My Congressman responded in much the same way. His name is Jim Matheson, and he is one of very few pro-gun Democrats. Actually, he is one of very few Democrats that are actually worth voting for.

I *dream* of getting letters like the OP's from a California politician.

I'll pray for you. My father lives in CA, and I pray for him too.

Support any and all pro second amendment legislators you have, both Reps and Dems.

You should see the crap I receive back from my own two Senators ... Dick Durbin and (now president-elect) Barack Obama. Egads.

Be advised that all of these Reps and Senators have letters ready to mail for each side of every possible issue you can contact them about. I have seen them. They got where they are by telling everybody what they wanted to hear.

"They got where they are by telling everybody what they wanted to hear."

Some did, no doubt, but I'm here to tell you that if you send a pro-gun letter to Dianne Feinstein, she'll write back and tell you to go fly a kite.

If you live in California (or even if you don't!) please join the California Rifle and Pistol Association:

Be sure to join your state association *wherever* you live.
