I wrote to Ralph Hall (U.S. Representative District 4, TX) regarding H.R.1022. I got his reply today. He has a good record for supporting the 2nd Amendment so I have no doubt that he will oppose H.R.1022 if it comes to a vote.

Dear Mr. Schroeder:
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1022, the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007. I always appreciate hearing from constituents about issues that are important to them.

As you may know, H.R. 1022 will work to reauthorize for 10 years the assault weapons ban and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. It also redefines “semiautomatic assault weapon”, to any conversion kits and any semiautomatic rifle or pistol that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine. It also directs the Attorney General to establish and maintain a record of all makes, models, and dates of manufacture for weapons that have been used in crimes. These records shall be made public and must be annually submitted to Congress. This bill was introduced by Representative Carolyn McCarthy of New York on February 13, 2007, and has been referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.

I have always been a strong advocate of our Second Amendment right to bear arms, and I base my votes on how our constitutional rights will be affected. I am pleased to see that we are in agreement on this issue, and I will oppose this legislation should it come before the House floor for a vote.
Again, thank you for sharing your concerns with me. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. With kind regards I am

Sincerely,

Ralph M. Hall
Member of Congress
