1911-type pistols - -

- - and Browning High Power - - If outside the safe are fully loaded, cocked and locked. If I can see the hammer is back, I know there's a round in the chamber.

The Kel Tecs - My wife's and mine ;) - - are kept fully loaded.

Everything in the safe is completely empty, but there's a loaded magazine on the shelf for each autopistol.

Best,
Johnny

My G22, bedside/HD gun is loaded, 15+1 with spare 10 rd mag on night stand. Only other loaded gun in my house is my SW mod 37 snub, which I keep loaded for CCW. The rest of the guns are unloaded as are thier mags. The G19 and Sig p228 are winter carry guns, and may be loaded from time to time. The Keltec p32 is an occasional pocket/deep concealment CCW. The G30 is just a range/fun gun at this point. The Bersa thunder .380 is in the truck loaded and chambered hammer down saftey off, with two spare mags. That's all my handguns.

All rifles and shotguns are unloaded. My double barrel coach gun has 5 00buck shells in a side saddle on the stock for quick loading. I live alone.

All guns loaded at all times. Beretta 92FS Centurion is my "go to" house gun. DA/SA with full mag +1, safety off, decocked. SA = cocked & locked. Romanian AK fully charged +1, safety on.

If its not loaded, its just a really expensive paper-weight.

H'mm I know I posted on this thread, I must have donked it up somehow when I posted ( not the first time)

I don' like leaving the springs in my auto's compressed. Seems like a recipe for failure when I least expect it. I do keep one auto in standby condition but I rotate ammo out of the mag every few weeks, into another.

I have enough revolvers that store better, that this is a none issue. My S&W 58 is always loaded, plus I have a speed loader hot and ready. Considering I am both more accurate and faster with this setup, I just don't see the need to change. Another thought is although I have either a 45 ACP or 38 super in reserve so to speak, if I can't get it done with 12ea 41 mags, I figure I am in deep kaka, and the auto pistol isn't really gone to fix the problem that I need a rifle for.

There is also a Colt dick special that is in very close proximety, that is my backup.

I don't have a need to carry daily any more, but back when I though it was neccesary, a 45 or a 10mm in condition 1 in a shoulder holster is the right setup. But this is setup that needs attention every so often, not really ideal for my current configuration which entails storage and trips to the range.

I have kids in the house, plus many visitors.

1. When I am not home, everything is locked up.

2. When I am home if I have a semi-auto out and not on my body it is in condition three, almost always in a holster, hidden where I can get at it but most prying eyes won't find it.

3. If I have a semi-auto on me it is in condition one.

All of my house guns are kept in the safe in the bedroom closet. Besides my carry weapon du jour, only three are normally kept loaded, my 97B, Taurus 608, and Mossberg 500 12 gauge. The 97B has 10 in the mag 1 in the pipe, hammer down, spare loaded mag handy. The Mossberg carries 5 shells, chamber empty. The safe is left open whenever I'm home, no kids to worry about.

If the LW Commander is out, it is cocked and locked and the CZ is in the safe.

If the LW Commander is in the safe the CZ-83 is loaded, round chambered in DA mode.

Note, for home defense I rely on a shotgun first before the handguns if at all possible.

No kids in the house.

When I carried a 45 ACP on duty, I off-loaded it after every shift as a matter of habit. That gave me a chance to examine it before going on duty and making sure it would function by loading it before I went out the door. No matter how you keep a 1911, the springs are never at rest. If you have quality springs in it I think it matters not whether you keep it cocked and locked as I keep my Carry Commander as we speak. The revolvers are different in that some springs are at rest more than an automatic. Even they have tension on the springs, to some degree. I do not think it's an issue. My kids were exposed to loaded guns since they were born, but were taught not to touch them without permission. That has been almost 36 years and so far, so good. I never thought you could kid proof guns so I took the oposite approach. Most Kids are smart and if you instruct them in a proper fashion, they will obey.

Now that you mention it, maybe I should reconsider...

lol!

The 1911....in the shop getting a dovetail cut.
CZ-75B w/night sights...unloaded, empty mag.
Ruger Old Army....unloaded.
Cold Walker (replica)...5 cylinders loaded.

of course...even if I'd miss with the walker...it would scare the hell out of any BG ;)

if you're supposed to treat all guns like they are loaded, they might as well be.
no kids here either.

My ccw(glock 17) is always condition 1, 19 +1 in the chamber. No kids in the house, so all other guns are cocked and loaded....an empty gun is a useless gun.

One in the chamber and fully loaded mag in the pistol . . .no safety . . but it's still the safest gun i know of in this condition . .if someone picks it up and simply pulls the trigger nothing happens. . . which gun is it?

guns in the safe are unloaded, although I may start keeping one of the revolvers loaded.

My nightstand gun (96fs) is chambered with hammer down and safety on.

No other guns are unsecured outside of the safe. On occasion, I'll have the old 12 ga pump near the bed, it will be unchambered, but have rounds in the tube.

FN Forty-Nine in .40S&W (one of my CCW's): Sits in the nightstand chambered with another full mag right next to it. DAO, so there is no safety to screw with. This is the primary defense gun.

CZ75B 9mm: One in the chamber, hammer down safety off. This one sits in the safe.

Commercial Bulgie Makarov .380: One chambered with safety on and extra mags next to it. Sits in my GF's nightstand.

Hi-Standard model 20 12ga: one chambered with safety on. This sleeps under the bed. She eats 00 Buckshot. I'd grab a pistol before this as the length of this weapon is hard to manuver through my narrow halls.

All .22 firearms sit unloaded in the safe. Toys are not for defense.

Mosin Nagant M44: Loaded with empty chamber. Kinda last ditch as I don't want to send a 174grn FMJ slug ripping through thin walls unless I have to. I guess I could always unfold the bayonet, but then its damn near 5ft long. Not good for narrow halls.

Should all this fail, I've got 31" of Easton aluminum sitting behind the bedroom door as well as an assortment of knives. Oh, my Inova X5 sits next to the FN Forty-Nine in the nightstand. My GF has a 2D Mag-Lite in her nightstand.
