I need someone to talk some sense to me.
I have been carrying my old Sp101 more and more. The new Hogue grips has made a new gun out of it. I like the way it looks. I like the way it shoots.....
I like the way it carries.
Speedloader in rt front pocket, speed strip in watch pocket.
The 9mm has been getting a break.

My 3” Sp 101 is my main carry gun. Absolutely love it. E3260BC9-35A4-4AAB-90D5-12B5D9BACD82.jpeg

My 4" .357 SP101 is my constant companion when I'm in the woods, stoked with 180gr Federal. As much as I approve of that gun, it's not my choice for carry anywhere else.

Edit - I agree the Hogue grips make it a different gun for me, very shootable.

I have tried to convince myself to carry my SP in 357, 3 inch ever since I bought it. The thing is just so heavy compared to my 85UL that I just can't seem to talk myself into it being they are both only 5 shooters.

OK, common sense follows. Out of my SP101s, 9mm flies almost as fast as .357, and recoils much less. No apocalyptic fireballs though.
So get a twin SP101 in 9mm, put the grips of your choice on it, and carry moonclips in the pockets of your choice. Yes, you can have both, and 9mm likes short barrels more than .357. :)

Seems like revolver of some sort ends up as my carry piece … hard to go wrong with such a choice

I have that grip on mine. You're right about it being a totally new gun. Wife prefers the standard grip.

I often wonder why in revolvers that are chambered in 9mm , have full length cylinders .. looks like with a shorter cylinder you would decrease weight and increase the barrel length without increasing the length of the revolver….
9mm & 40 S&W make good snubbie cartridges, both operate well with short barrels

You’re right. Makes no sense at all. :p

Now that that’s done, it sounds like you have found your perfect carry gun.

Yep, that Hogue grip certainly makes a difference on the SP101. Unless you've got a sub-compact .357 Sig laying around with double the capacity....

    ...I can't fault your choice.

Can't help you sir. I've noticed I'm carrying my K6s more. I still carry and shoot my G29 regularly. I honestly think after all these years it'll get jealous.

I owned a couple SP101s when they first came out. Eventually sold or traded them 'cause they were just too heavy for what you got. That being only 5 shots of what ever (38 Special, 357 Mag, 9mm).

I won't own another one until Ruger gets around to offering one with a 6-shot cylinder. Then it could become a daily carry choice.

All I’ve done is paint the front sight orange and put wooden GP-100 grip panels in place of the black plastic ones.

    It’s a great carry gun.

    Stay safe.

    To be honest, I load 125 JHP P+ 38spl. I save 357 for my GP100 and Blackhawks.

I absolutely love SP101s (have several) I don't carry one for EDC because of the weight. When I do carry it's an LCR in 327 Federal.

I finally found one with a decent trigger. The Hogues are pretty much mandatory for someone with big hands. I like it a lot as a range toy.

For pocket carry I prefer my LCR or a j-frame.

I wouldn't mind carrying the SP101 owb, or in a coat pocket in the winter.

This one happened to be in the used case at the LGS. I'm normally more of a 38 special guy, but this way I can enjoy a SP101, and a 9mm, too. :)

What is your problem? If you like it, carry it. My main handgun, out of several, is my 3 ?/? Inch with the Dansby trigger job. Shoots along with my 15, 19, and 43 at 25 yards. A little heavy for pocket carry but tradeoffs occur. The only small 357 I can handle with my rapidly aging arthritic hands.

My SP-101 327 loaded to half way between 32 H&R and book max 327 gives more power than a 38, easy recoil, less blast than full loads and 6 shots.

There are lots of really nice "flavors" on the Sp-101 menu, but I agree that they seem better with an aftermarket grip.
