Reverting back to my old ways...SP101

Nothing wrong with carrying an SP101, and much right with it. :) You are not in need of an “intervention.” The Hogue grip is not a good fit, for me, however. I prefer the factory grip. Different grips for different hands, but our brains are in the right place. I love my SP101 revolving pistols. Several “compact nines” have tried to put them out of business, during the last couple of decades, without success.

I tried one or two SP101 snub-guns, in the early Nineties, and did not keep either of them, because I did not truly understand them, and, their trigger pulls were probably not the best examples of Rugers’ work. In hindsight, I was probably not holding high enough, on the grip, while shooting them. Something clicked, in my mind, while training with J-Frames, about holding radically high on the grip, and I decided I wanted to try an SP101, again.

The SP101 I bought about 1997 is still with me, and has been carried much. I added another SP101, in 2002, which put my S&W J-snubs mostly out of a job. (I tend to carry small revolvers in pairs.) These two have spur-less hammers, and were worked-over by Jack Weigand, when he was still doing custom work. He would get SP101 revolvers, tune them, and pass them on to dealers, to be sold as new firearms, so, I was the original buyer of these two.

I soon added a third, with a hammer spur, so I could use it in a shoulder holster with a thumb-break retention strap. I hand-selected this one for its particularly nice trigger pull.

About 2006, I added another SP101, this time with a 3” barrel. I hand-selected this one for a decent trigger pull. I installed a spur-less hammer, that I had found on the evil-bay, and, luckily, it fit perfectly, and cleaned-up the trigger pull a bit more. (A drop-in fit is most certainly not a sure thing.)

Somewhere along the way, I added a 4” SP101, chambered in .32 H&R. This one remains boxed, awaiting the day I might be too arthritic for .357 Mag or .38 Special. (My aging right thumb, hand, and wrist are getting there. Thankfully, I am functionally ambidextrous with DA revolving pistols.)

This year, I added two more SP101 snub-guns. These were pre-owned, and appeared to have been safe queens for the previous owner(s). One has tritium night sights, and both were ported, with the work being done by Gemini Customs. (I am aware of the caveats, regarding the shooting of ported weapons.)

It does appear, in my sixtieth year on this planet, that I am am firmly entrenched in what some are now calling the “snubby lifestyle.” ;)

I really enjoy seeing those carry pieces that are DAO. That's what I'll do if I ever decide to CC mine.

Rexter - I have a 4.2" 327. It shoots 32 S&W long just fine. I figure I can probably shoot those for as long or almost as long as I can shoot 22's. :)

I got rid of my dao .357 snub. I didn’t like the dao only. But I would be open to a da/da in 357 with. 4”. I love my gp100 so think the 101 in 4 would be a winner.

I'm thinking about a tritium sight like a big dot or a meprolight.

Are any of you using them?
My front sight is painted.

I had a Mepro on my 38 only SP101, and it was very dim despite being that year’s manufacturing. I use the Big Dot, smallest size, on my LCR and 360. Much better!
