What's your favorite revolver and why?

Well, since I currently only own two, I am gonna have to say my S&W 617. Even if I had some bigger wheelies at the time, the 617 would prolly still be my favorite because it is so much fun to shoot, and very cheap going through the Federal bulk ammo.

If your revolver isn't already perfect, what would make it perfect?

I am serisouly thinking about going with a Firesight for the front, and white or green outline the rear sight.

assume someone was gunna build you your perfect revolver.. what would it be?

Basically I would love to have a revolver in 22wmr that was based on the looks of an old High Standard High Sierra with the longer octagon barrel (8"-10"), but with Ruger Single Six build quality, and a trigger as nice as my 617's trigger. I would prefer this gun to have a highly polished blue barrel and frame, gold plated trigger, hammer, front sight and grip screws, and a nice set of highly figured walnut grips.

Not asking too much am I?

My favorite revolver is my S&W Model 24, no question about it. But, If I could have any revolver built to my perfect specs, a Colt New Service with sights just like my M24. Chambered in .455 Eley. Because? They hit hard, are uncommonly accurate, and not all that commonly found. I like having something different from the rest of the herd.

I reallly like the 686, and Ive even considered to buy one for quite a while. Especially one of those nifty preformance center ones, they look ever so nice!

And something that I wish they would fix on the wheelguns? Being an auto guy, I heve learned to love serrated squared trigger guards that allow me to easily rest my left index finger on them while I shoot. I know that its just a small thing, but it just annoys me SO MUCH when I shoot with a round trigger guard.

SP101 snubby

because it's built like a tank and never fails

(I could be persuaded to go with a 3", though.)

It would be difficult for me to pick a favorite. It would be a tie between my two Colt Pythons, a 6" blue (my first handgun) and a 4" blue (my latest). I have many other S&W's that are very close but I have a special place in my heart for Colt's.

What's your favorite revolver and why?

I guess it HAS to be my 1980 S&W 25-2 Target Revolver in .45ACP. It had the barrel chopped to 3 1/4" by a long passed away Savannah gunsmith years ago . . . . turning it into a sort of Jovino clone, but retaining the square grip profile vs. the Jovino's round butt modification. I prefer the square butt for competition work and general shooting ease, so it has been a great revolver.

I've won dozens of pin matches with this wheelgun, as well as several tactical matches with this wheelgun and it doesn't understand that it's target barrel was skillfully shortened.

The double action is stunning to behold, and the single action pull is amazing too.

If the SHTF, I hope and pray that this is the handgun in my hand to defend myself and my family.

If your revolver isn't already perfect, what would make it perfect?

Several things . . .

1. I want to have it skillfully refinished in bright polished blue, ala the original S&W standard . . . or have it redone in bright, polished nickle.

2. I want to have the entire front sight assembly replaced with a new partridge unit.

3. I'd love to have the top of the gun checkered like the Model 27 guns.

4. A set of stag or ivory grips would really set it off, along with a set of Tyler T-grips.

5. I've radically narrowed and radiused the original S&W wide target hammer (for slicker double action use), and would like to have the sides of the trigger, and the hammer, jeweled.

6. I'd like to get the trigger modified for an adjustable trigger stop.

7. I might also want to bob the hammer for double action work.

Refer to my second answer!

S&W 686-3 4". You can't beat it for a balance between too big or too small, rugged, accurate and carries easily concealed. Can be used as both a house gun and a CC. Can take a steady diet of magnums or .38 specials. Other than my 686-3 6" power port with red dot, this is it.

For me S&W Revolver.
My favourite is the 629 CLASSIC DX.
For me the best revolver is a 44 Mag loaded with a .44 Special or with a light .44 Magnum.

Power AND control is the best way for me.

My only regret is that with our french law I could not have more gun.
If I dont have limit I gave a 625 .45 A.C.P. and many other snubby .38spe., etc..

bye :)

What's your favorite revolver...

The only thing I might change is getting the finish bead-blasted.

assume someone was gunna build you your perfect revolver.. what would it be?

A 3" K-Frame in this configuration, or a 3" 7-shot M19 with a thicker forcing cone.

The S&W Mod 29 was always my favourite wheel gun. Between 1983 and 1996 I'd built up quite a collection of handguns but the .44 was the most prized - because it was my first and because it was Dirty Harry's gun - the main reason I bought it. All gone now, sadly, the UK government stole them all to keep the media and professional hand-wringers happy.

which

WinchesterAA: Sir; what am I going to be doing will dictate which I feel is the best.
Ruger GP100 .357 woods walk about. Blackhawk .357 walk about hunting; Super Blackhawk .44 for getting it done hunting; 638 SW for keeping the peace.
Simple when I have a purpose.:D

my first revolver - a Colt Agent with a bit of work from David Sams. I've come to enjoy it so much, I'm in the hunt for more Colt D-frames... ;)

It's so tough to pick just one, but...

If I had to keep just one...I guess my 4" Python that came from the Colt Custom Shop 25 years ago. (It cost $100 extra!) It has a buttery smooth double action that I haven't found on any other revolver and a very crisp single action. But since I don't own any wheel gun newer than 10 years old perhaps it could be beaten. I doubt it!

I do love my S&W .44 Triple Lock though....

"Hurts to read that." - tuckerdog1

Not as much as it hurt to have to hand them over. Owners were given a set appointment to turn up at the police station and hand them over. The cops were having a field day with my guns - like kids playing with toys - doing Harry Callaghan and James Bond poses all over the place. Not one of them had the presence of mind to check they were unloaded. Just snatched them up and started messing with them. "Who's the real nut with the gun in this room?" I thought.

Incidentally here's a true story.
My appointment was on the same day as I had to hand in my university dissertation (ironically on firearm legislation) and go on holiday. I had to be in several places at once within a few hours and many miles apart.

So I figured I'd drive to college, hand in my paper then drive to the police station to hand over my guns then drive to the airport. The university has a small police station on campus so my plan was to get the cops to look after the guns whilst I gave my paper to my tutor, pick them up afterwards and then go to the main police station in Oxford for my appointment.

When I turned up at the campus police station and spoke to the cop there and explained the situation he told me he was just about to go off duty (for lunch). The other officer was about to walk the campus and the third one said he didn't really have the facilities to hold onto them. Their advice was for me to hang on to them and drop off my papers.

So that's what I ended up having to do. Throughout campus I carried a huge duffel bag filled with a S&W mod 29, a mod 586, two Webley .38s, a Colt 1911, a Browning Hi-Power, a Vostok .22, a Beretta Mod 1934, A Dan Wesson .357 and a little Taurus snub nosed .38 that I picked up at an arms fair long since forgotten. Naturally I also had all the ammunition that went with them. This was less than a year after Dunblane.

So either the cops were totally out of their freaking minds or, likely as not, they realized that the legislation / confiscation was total BS put out by the politicians to appease the professional hand wringers and the press.

It was many many many months before any of us shooters our compulsory buy out payments too.

Gun crime has soared tenfold in the UK since all the legitimate owners had their guns taken from them. So that really worked didn't it.

The bizarre thing was ... for every gun on my firearm certificate I was allowed to replace with a permission (slots they're called here) to buy a rifle - still legal to own.
So having given up my short range, albeit quite powerful arms, I was now able to go out and buy extremely powerful long range rifles. In their twisted world where GUNS = VERY BAD how on Earth does that square up?

Well, it's the only revolver I own right now, so I'd consider it my fav, a S&W model 10.

In order
1 S & W 625 in .45 ACP / .45 Auto RIm.
Hogue finger gorrove/checkered Rosewood
The big N-frame soaks up the .45 recoil
2 S&W Model 60
with 38 Spcl +P loads it's a sweetie
3 S&W Model 617 10 shot cyl.
Hogue grip - full size no checkering with in
Coco Bolo wood with a white spacer and rosewood butt
4. S & W 686P
but I haven't fired it yet with it's Hogue COmpact
finger grooves/checkered Rosewood grips which should
help I had the grips for the 617 on it and w/o checkering
they didn't work well..

but my fav. handgun is my 1911

629 classic

Well my favorite is my 5 inch 629 classic with Herret Jordan Trooper Stocks. Finest handgun in the world in my opinion.....and the best in my safe, where it usually sits. Most carried, the 642 38 special. If I could own only one...........the 642 cause it's there when needed.....but it would probably be time to steal another state from Mexico like we did with Texas etc if my gov't forced me down to one. God Bless America!

Just one?

 Just one and only one forever and ever?!

Hmm.... S&W686 2.5", though I'd really miss my 625JM...

Lindermant: that Colt's a beauty!

My favorite to shoot at the range is a either a 4" or 6" GP100 SS. But my favorite to CCW and "do it all" gun is the 3" GP100 backed up with a 2.25" SP101 SS. This is a picture of my two beaters. They have been through 10s of thousands of rounds now and have never gone out of timing (unlike my S&Ws and Colts). The Rugers really are designed well and accurate to boot.

Hard to choose just one though. The 642 makes a really nice "run to the grocery store in your sweats at 11:00 pm", gun. It depends o your needs. The 4" platform is kinda a "do it all" gun platform. But my 3" GP100 is quickly becoming that gun.

Thought I'd see more love for the K-frames in this thread.

Guess my all-time personal favorite has to be my 4" S&W 19-4 with the great deep bluing that still looks wet ... Best trigger pull ever ... The perfect feel, balance, pointability and outstanding accuracy. Even conceals well for me in a Kramer horsehide vertical scabbard.

Dark Skies - sad story; perhaps you should post it in the General Discussion or General Handgun forum for more readers to view ...
