If I were to never leave the homestead it would revolver
    .45Blackhawk convertible
    Single six

But since I have to venture out and mix with fellow humans it becomes Autos

My boring answer is Glock pistols, in 10mm and .357 Sig, with the option to shoot .40S&W in them via conversion barrels. I carry a G33 and a G20 daily, and I'm not giving them up.

So those are the first two. The third choice? Another Glock capable of shooting .40S&W plus either 10mm or .357 Sig. So a G23 or G22 or G20 or G29. All gen 4.

Well, I don't find this thread much fun at all as there are just too many of each category that I really like to shoot but I'll play. For me it will be revolvers and single action revolvers to boot. I am ignoring self defense carry and going with guns that enjoy shooting the most. I never met a single action that I didn't like, some more than others, but still wouldn't kick out the bed, so to speak.

I'm not getting rid of my autoloaders, but when I see a magazine fed gun next to a revolving cylinder gun I almost always want to investigate the revolver first.

What I'd like to have that I don't have are:

    1. S&W 327 TRR8
    2. S&W 632 Pro Series stainless
    3. S&W 17

    Glock 17 or 19
    1911 of some sort
A 22 LR semi of some sort. Torn between a 'tactical' type like a G44 or more target oriented such as Buckmark.

Going in your guidelines I would pick revolvers.
44 mag 3 inch trail boss model 29
    Ruger Blackhawk 357/38, with a 9mm barrel
    31-1 Smith and Wesson
That gives me 4 calibers and 2 of them have short versions. I’d be tempted go with a 442 over the 31-1 but I love the tiny 32

I like my S&W 27 enough to shoot it when the notion strikes me, but I like my CZ SP-01 well enough that I don't want to do without it. So, automatics it is!

    1.) CZ Custom SP-01, SKU 91765. 9mm
I have typed that so many times on this forum that my "z" key is broken and I have to use the on-screen keyboard in Windows.

    2.) Glock 30 .45 ACP
The first two on this list I actually own. If those were the ONLY two pistols I owned I could do with those.

3.) Sig P226 Legion (cost aside)

Among what I have/had it would be auto:

    SW 2206 .22LR
    Sig 229 Enhanced Elite
    Sig 1911

I feel the .357 would be the nicer all around since it can be loaded with .38 SPL and the variety of .357 offerings that cover a range of applications. Haven't shot/had a .22LR revolver. .44 mag is to much for me and hot .357 too.

I have a 639 with the adjustable sight and hooked trigger guard. For general carry I'd prefer the 439 above and a dozen S&W OEM magazines.

I suppose I'm a revolver guy at heart, although lately I've been trending toward semi's. Still as I understand the rules, I have to pick one or the other, so I'll do revolvers this time.

    2020 Colt Python 357 Magnum

    4Colta_zpskvpl3jvb.jpg

Number two...1977 Smith and Wesson Model 67-1, 38 Special

    image_50408705.jpg

And the only other revolver I've got, and it's technically my wife's is this one, a Ruger Single-Six, 50th anniversary. 22LR/22 mag

There's a Heritage Rough Rider around here too, but you said three. There you go.

Ive narrowed it down to two. The one on the right has to be "best of the best" though. Its even got a manual thumb safety, for those who insist! :D

Well, my absolute favorite handgun is a GP100, which is not going anywhere, so, revolver.

    1. 4” GP100.

    2. 2.25” SP101.

    3. My third would be a spare, of one of the above, perhaps a different barrel length. Probably, a 6” GP100.

Going by the rules, I choose from the guns I own:
    REVOLVERS

    1. S&W 442 - SD/HD
    2. S&W 327 Night Guard - HD/SD
    3. S&W 25-15 because it’s damn cool!

    Yes, the 442 & 327 are loaded.

I'd have to go revolver to keep a k frame, which I can't imagine being without, so:
    - S&W M15
    - .45 colt Blackhawk
    - single six

It's the .22 that makes that the hardest for me because my Ruger MK IV is right up there with the K frame for me. I like my single six, but if I had to choose between them I wouldn't pick it over the MK. Fortunately I don't have to outside this rainy day exercise...

    I’d have to go Automatic.

    1. Sig P365XL
    2. Hi Power
    3. Ruger Mk. II

Note that this is a “theoretical limit of 3” exercise, and doesn’t necessarily represent my own current choices. I could just as easily have said:

    1. 1911
    2. KelTec P3AT
    3. Colt 1903

Kind of a flip of the coin.

This is a tough call for me. I prefer revolvers and have seen some security camera incidents where more than 5-8 shots were needed. In that situation, I'd prefer an auto, but revolvers are just more fun and rewarding to me.

Also, my wife can handle revolvers on her own, but not autos.

Does my wife get her own three, or is this three for BOTH of us?

If we have to share three, here is the list:
    1. Ruger LCR, 38 Spl - my carry gun
    2. S&W 19, 4", light-duty 357 - Wife's gun
    3. S&W 625, 5.5", 45 ACP - Range/competition gun
If we each get three, my wife would likely choose: (with my guidance)
    1. Charter Arms 63270 "Professional", 32 Mag - Lighter weight, possible carry gun, less serious range gun. I'd buy reloading gear for this caliber.
    2. S&W 14, 6" - Target gun, 38 Spl. I'd roll some light hand loads for her.
    3. S&W 63 - Range gun, 22LR, cheap-to-shoot plinker
    ...and my three would be:
    1. Colt Gold Cup in 45 ACP - Range gun, maybe cold weather carry?
    2. Sig Sauer P365 - Carry gun
    3. Ruger Mk. II Target - Range gun, cheap-to-shoot plinker

This game is far to difficult for me to play.
My Defense gun is easy Glock G20.
I just cant limit my other choices to 2. 10, or maybe 15, but not just 2.

Are we being realistic on what we would ACTUALLY have?

Because I could say mr73, Korth, Webley Fosberry.

I could also say Savage Navy, Patterson, Remington.

Or I could go with what I actually have as the last 3 I would part with. 30-1, single six 9” convertible, 10-6.

    Maybe I should say Phoenix hp22a, RIA 10mm GI 1911, Taurus pt99af.

Let’s just try this one… Rossi Cyclops 988, Freedom Arms 35 Remington 10”, 9” single six convertible.
