Had to detail strip this 1911 after a flood. It’s been 100% until now. Now the Hammer stays cocked if I rack the slide with my finger off the trigger, but If I hold the trigger back it drops or falls to half cock as the slide closes. What did I do wrong? Did I bend or break the leaf spring or something? Is it possible to reassemble the disconnector with the sear pin not through the disconnector opening??

This is how i have understood the reason for the half-cock notch on the hammer of the 1911.

The most widely known semi-automatic pistol possessing a half-cock notch is the age-old 1911. Contrary to popular belief, the half-cock notch on the hammer of the 1911 is not a carry location. Rather, it is a passive safety to keep the hammer from striking the firing pin should the single-action notch on the hammer or the sear-engagement surfaces fail to maintain their intended relationship. There are two points to remember here: First, in order for a loaded 1911 to be placed in the half-cock notch, the trigger has to be pulled and the hammer has to be manually lowered to the half-cock .
