Rifle Cartridge You Love for No Real Reason

8mm Rem Mag - unloved but by all accounts perfect for the largest game we hunt in the US.
270 Win - essentially surpassed by so many calibers. Its popularity is grandfathered in. Still love it.
300 WSM - probably be around forever but in slow decline. If you need a 300 Mag you should really go with the Win Mag. I am still fascinated by it.

Note, I don't own any of the three but intend on acquiring a 270 at some point. Probably never own the 8mm or 300 WSM. I still hope they stick around in perpetuity.

The 300wsm is the best all around NA cartridge. I may want a bigger hammer for the big bears, but it will do it.

Still want that 8rm!!!!!!??????

I like the 250-3000 savage and the 25-06 rem. The 30-378 wearherby as well. Why? Dunno. I have got deer with both th .257 varieties. Loaded right they’re mighty good deer rounds. The old 1:14 savages were just awful getting some bullets to stabilize. Oh the joys. Maybe I should “wildcat”min to a 1:8 :)

In centerfire rifles, whichever chambering costs the least to shoot in a reliable semi-auto.

No exaggeration. It has come down to one specific chambering, and many of you know what it is.

Accuracy of the cartridges means very little to me.
I stored a good chunk over the years, being 12 minutes from the huge private club.

I echo the references to the 7x57 Mauser. I'd give it honorable mention behind the .375 Ruger I noted above. I have other 7mms that outperform the Mauser, but there's just something about it, especially when the brass is headstamped ".275 Rigby."

Get one. It’s an awesome round. And if you reload, I’ve got a pretty cool trick I figured out that’s super simple for shooting heavier bullets like 300gr Sierra FP’s with a cannelure (my go to bullet in 444).

Is the trick trimming back the brass till the bullets will seat at the right OAL? I do love me some 444. I really think if they had done a better job from the outset at designing a bullet for it we would have never gotten the resurgence of 45/70. 444 is the better all around cartridge IMO

Might be adding another cartridge to this list today. Looking at a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Guide Gun in 300 RCM. I already have rifles chambered in 300 Win Mag and 300 PRC. No reason at all to add the 300 RCM, but I kinda want it.

I do reload and enjoy reloading 4570s and 44s the most. The only reason I even got a single shot 4570 is so that I could try to blow it up with hot loads rather than ruining my lever action. So far so good but a lot of bruised shoulder.

You can certainly bruise your shoulder with 45-70. Especially in a single shot like a Ruger No.1. When you get a 444, take your brass and trim it to LeverEvolution length. You can now load 300gr Sierra’s, crimp on the cannelure, and it doesn’t affect powder capacity for any powder but especially for H-4198 (hint hint). The hogs in my avatar were all bang flops with 1 shot each from my 444 using this load.

Yes. All you have to do for the 300gr Sierra’s is trim to LeverEvolution length. Perfect fit.

Nice Hogs. We used to catch them alive with ropes and dogs when I was younger probably 25 years ago but stupidly dangerous. My brother in law just took some with his 35 Remington. How far out were you when you took those?

Good idea and it’s probably the best jacket 444 bullet there is. I didn’t want to trim my brass so I rented a throat reamer and reamed mine out till they would chamber
