Not sure if this is the right area to post?
I want to get a rifled slug gun for deer hunting southern Minnesota and would like some advice on the best gun? Is there a good rifled slug gun in semi auto?

Cantilevered rifled barrels are the way to go. Can get them for Mossberg 500's, Remington 870's, Remington 1100's and 11-87. I have one I swap onto my 11-87 and it will keep 3" groups at 100 yards with Remington Copper Solids 2 3/4" shells. It has a 1-4X scope on it. The scope is mounted to the barrel and not the receiver so there is not play between the gun and barrel that can mess with accuracy. There are also some dedicated single shot rifled slug guns that can be had, but I don't have the brand names of them off the top of my head.

Awesome....I used to use a bolt action Mossberg 695...rifled with a 1.5- 5 power scope...great gun! But now I would like to have a semi auto....not that I'm not a one shot kill!!!!! Lol...just getting lazy...lmao

Savage 220, a rifle cleverly disguised as a shotgun. Or, is it the other way around? Regardless, my pick and personal favorite after using smoothbores, rifled tubes, Hastings barrels, and cantilevered pump and semi auto guns for the past fifty eight years.

Just be aware that some optics especially in the 30 mm tube will run out of adjustment because of the ring height on the cantilever. Ask me how I know LOL:thumbup::thumbup:

What type of range are you looking at?

I only ask this because you would be surprised how accurate rifled slugs out of a smooth bore with decent sights are. I can hit paper plate size targets free hand from 75 yards all day with my model 1100 slug gun, and I can also still shoot buck and turkey loads out of it.

I hunted southern MN for a couple years, and had a 20" Hastings cantilever barrel on my 870, topped by a 2.5x Bushnell. I still have it, the 870 serves as a back up gun now than I live in WI and it is rifle statewide.
My Dad had the same barrel on his 1100, hit a deer on the shoulder at a measured 220 yards with a Hornady sabot slug. Another guy had gutshot it, and my dad anchored it for the other guy; it was trying to sneak around behind a hill. The guy yelled over "I hope you don't think that deer is yours!" What a <insert epithet here>. :fire: Dad yelled back, "Nope, just making sure you don't lose it!"

It's been mentioned already but if I had to go out and purchase a slug gun it would be a Savage 220. Not semi-auto but one heck of a nice slug gun. Buddy of mine has one and I refer to it as his "20 ga. rifle". Over the years I've discovered that 20 ga. kills just as good as 12 ga.. At least with modern ammo and rifled barrels. I've seen what his can do in the field and I've seen other Savage 220's at the range and I'm very impressed by them.
