OK I search and search but all I find are references to how great 5mm Rem was and how horrible it is that no one makes ammo.

Well, now the stuff is back in production and everywhere but who is making rifles for it?

Is the Taurus Tracker handgun responsible for the ammo coming back or are rifles hitting the market again at some point?

I know they are all over GunBroker etc for the used ones, just wondered if there was new production coming from somewhere.

Remington original rifles-long out of production

Thompson Center barrels

That's all I've heard about.

I have allready seen the taurus model out, also rossi, t/c, savage, and cz are supposed to be making rifles. Believe it or not, the new ammo came out first, and for just a handful of old rifles, it has been flying off the shelves, to the point that the price of the ammo has actually been coming down. T/c has been making bbls for a long time, you can get them at just about any length you want. I don't know if they will be making complete rifles. The rifles from cz had been expected this summer allready, and savage should be coming out anytime.

Also supposedly , according to a few other articles, Centurion has been working on a couple of diff new loads, that are hotter than these.
such as a 32 or 35 grainer, in a fmj or hollowpoint, doing 2500 fps!!!! WOW!!!!
That is like a downloaded 204 ruger, from a rimfire. Basically , it will have the same ballistics, and trajectory as a 17 hmr, but with double the energy , out to all distances, I am so waiting for these to come out...

Thanks for the info. I've always thought it was a great round but wasn't worth fooling with since ammo was such a problem.

If rifles hit the market I'll be very interested.

The 5mm is what all the magnum rimfire freaks (me) want, right in the middle between HMR an WMR, smaller bullet that will hold it's energy, and a very high velocity.

I also believe marlin is coming out, or at least designing, a rifle for the 5mm.
The biggest problem is that they cannot just modify a current production rifle barrel, like they did to make the 17 HMR and 17 HM2, it is physically bigger so the bolt has to be fit for the casing. There has been talk about using a 22 hornet as a base.

I just got in 4 new boxes and can't wait to try them out. I have owned .17 Rem., 220 Swift, 22 mag., etc. and the Rem.5mm Magnum is my favorite. When I shoot it at targets, it might not pattern as good as some of the center fires, but in the field, it has outperformed all the others. My best shot ever was with the 5mm (fox at 450 yds.), at night. It may have been luck but many other shots like that mean a little more than luck to me. I have not shot it much in 20 years since I only had about 4 boxes of the old ammo. I quit using it also because the fur trade hit bottom. That thing brought down a many a coon, fox, and bobcat with a few coyotes thrown in. I even used it to collect deer(neck shot) once when I was working for Parks and Wildlife. Now I can start shooting it again. It will be like getting a new gun. I only had a cheap 4 power scope on it and I am going to put a 3-9 on it now. Hope the new ammo shoots as good as the old did. From what I hear, it should be better.
