My first gun was a Remington 581 that was purchased for me by an uncle in 1967. It was stolen in 1986 and I doubt I will ever see it again.

Maybe 5 years later I saw this 581 in a shop for sale. Came from the estate of a well known gunsmith and was his personal rifle (initials are stamped in the stock). He did a bunch of work on it which seems strange for such an inexpensive rifle.

He shortened the barrel to 20" and trimmed the fore-end of the stock. To maintain the same balance he drilled several small holes into the wood under the barrel and filled the holes with lead weights.

He drilled and tapped the action for a second screw to couple to the trigger guard (originally had only one).

Fiberglas-bedded the action and free-floated the barrel.

Lapped the bolt lugs and smoothed the trigger let-off.

(Yes, I have a ‘thing’ about Czech firearms…):)

Oops, I just realized this is the handgun forum so we really should be posting pics of pistols, not rifles.

This is my most interesting 22 handgun. A Colt conversion unit mounted on a Daly lower. I call it a Dolt. Almost looks like a junior Gold Cup. Functions 100% even to the point of locking the slide after the last shot which it never did on any Colt lower I tried.

Stocks are fake ivory with a scrimshawed winged reptile (an emblem I use sometimes) and a small diamond inset below it. Hey, doesn't everyone have a set of diamond-studded handgun grips?
