Rimfire Prove it.

I'm not at home so can't measure but, if I remember correctly the black of the target is 1-1/2". That makes the white 10 ring look like just under 1/2" or around 1 moa.
Plus .22" for the size of the bullet being used. (.5" + .22") / .525" = 1.37 MOA.

Personal bests to date. (I'll try to keep up)

i think I'll check the zero on my savage 2. i haven't used it much for years. I've only used wolf match ammo on it. still have about 500 rds left . once i figure out how to print off the target. used to enjoy those rimfire challenges till the shortages.

It looks like the 10 ring is about .8 moa. But shooting for score and shooting for group are two different things, especially when trying to read the wind. I had several 3 shot cloverleaf groups when I was warming up and zeroing but it didn’t come together when I got the real target out.

But yeah a real target rifle like an Anschutz or the beautiful 40x on the previous page should be able to clear it. It would be fun to see if I can get my father in law to get his Winchester 52 smallbore rifle out with the 20x unertl. I’m certain that one is up to it. Last time it was shot was about 5 years ago on a rainy day shooting it out the garage door.

I intend to give iron a try with either a CZ 452 UL with BRNO sights or a Rem 37 with factory peeps. Both have adjustable diopters and a fist full of front inserts. I didn't really pay attention to what the bull looked like from 50 with a naked eye to see if I think I will be able to see the black throught an appropriate sized front insert.

A good peep shooter, which I don't profess to be, can shoot groups as tight as a shooter with a high mag scope.

I did get out this morning. Temp was 69 degrees, and it was really damp/foggy. No trouble seeing the targets, but I'll have to score and report when I get home from work ... and the targets dry out a bit. Very educational outing. The Eley Sport ammo doesn't shoot very well from my 10/22. A bit better from the CZ, but nothing to brag about. It has been too long since I shot my .22s, and I need to get back in the groove! Full report with photos and targets later today.

Went to the range this morning and tried three different rifles, but the old Rem 581 was the Star! Ammo was RWS 50, left over lots of okay ammo, but not as good as the match-winning lots of yesteryear. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the results. The rifle has a Lilja take-off/turned-down Lilja barrel and it's in a bedded, Fajen Thumbhole stock. Factory trigger, was modified to 1.5 lbs. Wind was variable 2-7 mph switching from 3-9 o'clock.

It's been about 5 years or so since I've shot rimfire benchrest and my technique is rusty. I never shot this rifle in benchrest competition, but used it to win my share of turkeys at 50 yards offhand.

We'll, I did pretty well with my old scoped marlin 88... and I'd love to prove it... but my friend put stickers over the bullseyes before I could take the target down. He was doing me a favor, re-newing my shot up target.

Thanks!!

Disqualified...too many shots. Forgot that it was supposed to be 3 per bull. That's okay...I'm just happy to have gotten that level of performance out of the old turkey shoot rifle.

When I installed the barrel, I didn't use the factory pins, just used Locktite Stud and Bearing Mount liquid, as is recommended by Border Barrels for installation on Anschutz rifles. Headspace is a bit less than standard, so she closes hard on some ammo brands/types.

That was humbling,
Had to go to the club for an awards banquet and it had stopped raining so I grabbed 3 IRON sighted rifles. Heavy overcast made the targets very hard to decern through a front aperture. Win 75 and Rem 521T shot poorly. CZ99 with front post shot could decern the bullseyes better and the score showed. Didn't have my Win apertures but did my Rem. Changed to a post and score went up.
I apologize to the IRON shooters for a very tough target. The bulls are too small and if you overlay you loose your white border.
But it is what it is ... Lets shoot

Scores and pics tomorrow.

I didn't have a spotting scope, so couldn't see where bullets in the black were. The target was more difficult to shoot than the IR 50/50 target, due to the small amount of white. I was really more interested with group size than score, so didn't bother to correct placement on one bull. It was really fun to shoot the rifle with that decent batch of ammo.

Range report. Humbling day for me! Weather this morning was 69 degrees, very moist/foggy. At least the wind wasn't bad; under 5MPH by my weather app. Went to the range with the following equipment:

Ruger 10/22 that has been heavily customized by yours truly. Fajen laminate stock, EABCO fast-twist barrel, Volquartsen internals. Scoped with a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 4-12X40 AO scope with standard duplex-type reticle.

CZ 452 American 16 with a YoDave trigger kit installed; breaks clean at 2#. Scope is a Mueller 4.5-14X40 APV with AO and duplex reticle.

I shot from an inexpensive Caldwell front rest and rear bag, and shot both guns with a Silencerco Sparrow suppressor; there was no one else at the range when I got there and it was fun to be able to shoot without ears.

Ammo was 40 grain Eley Sport, standard velocity. Bought a case of it a few years ago (before they stopped making it) and I'm still working my way through it. I cleaned and lubricated the guns last night, so my protocol this morning was to shoot two 10-round groups to cure the barrels and get some idea of the ammo's consistency. Have to say, it wasn't promising. I then attempted to dial the scopes in to point of aim. As you will see, that was not as successful as I would have liked.

Here's the range. Pics of guns and targets to follow.

Ruger 10/22. The Ruger functioned flawlessly, as they are wont to do. But it didn't like the Eley ammo much. My sight in targets were all over the place, and despite a couple of decent 3-shot groups on scoring targets, the groups weren't consistent on the paper.

Here are the targets. Scores of 83 and 103. Groups were not great AND they were not consistently centered.

Summary. I have work to do! I've not shot my .22s in a long time, spending my time hand loading for my centerfires. Really enjoyed the challenge, and now will need to go through my stash to find what ammo actually shoots in these guns!

Edit. Note to self: take your spotting scope next outing!

Happy with the results, but not the rifle, I switched back to a Vortex cross fire II. I just took the mount off of the AR and put it on the Mark II. It looks a little goofy, but was not that terrible to use. After investigating the Konus I discovered the eye piece to be loose. Not much of a problem when tightened all the way in. Of course, that is too much to focus well. Oh, well. It would be fine for my Bushmaster.

After a zeroing I ran out of Aguila Rifle Match and switched to CCI Standard Velocity. Wow. Much nicer groups. For twenty shots. After six on the target it failed to extract the casing. Every time. They shot very well, so long as I picked them out with a finger nail or spent case. I don't think it is dirty but a cleaning is in order anyway. I started at the top right and went clockwise. I seemed to lose concentration...

I would have tried some Federal Gold Medal Target, but I had some one getting impatient...

Gratuitous Proud Father Picture!
