ok peeps, who is joining me on the line at Perry for this years rimfire sporter?
For those of you who are not familiar https://thecmp.org/competitions/matches/cmp-national-matches/national-rimfire-sporter-match/

Rimfire sporter is a hoot to shoot, low pressure get your feet wet competition. You shoot a rapid offhand, that really tosses things about.

There is a new match for 2021 as copied:
NEW IN 2021 - RIMFIRE DEWAR MATCH**

The course of fire will be 20 shots at 50 yards and 20 shots at 100 yards - 20 minutes per stage. Competitors will be firing on the Smallbore Range (Rodriguez Range) on Smallbore Targets. Competitors may fire a Rimfire Sporter Rifle with a scope ONLY. Competitors must select their relay time when they register.

This new match could be a lot of fun also, so with that...who is joining me ?

    These look like fun .

The closest CMP listed one is about 85 miles from me, one-way. I think I’ll try out one of these here before I drive 2,000 miles and humiliate myself on the big stage in Ohio. ;) Those folks who go to Camp Perry can shoot!

Good luck, let us know how you do. :)

I hope to make it to Jericho VT in late september . Beautiful area of Northern Vermont, and Camp Ethan Allen is a great facility . You can even lodge in barracks if you wish .

I'll be at Camp Perry this year, again, for the service rifle matches. Shooting matches for me has been sporadic at best for a couple years now, but I've got some good practice in and am feeling pretty sharp. My goal is to make the President's Hundred. We'll see in just a couple weeks.

The New England Games in Jericho are on my bucket list. Looks like such a nice range, and September in Vermont is a lot like Heaven as far as I'm concerned. The only way for me to swing it however would be to skip Camp Perry and use that vacation time. Thus far I've been unwilling to do it, but I will eventually.

Sorry all that I haven't responded, work has been kicking my....., but , so at the 11th hour I decided to pull the Anschutz target sights off my rifle and add an optic, May the games begin...lol....no,the optic is not real high dollar, but this is thee only optic I own ALL my other rifles wear some sort of match rifle sights. But I digress, NcSTAR 1-6 (because 6 power is max, and this optic because of the retical) primary arms mount(that I drilled full of holes to lighten it up, rest of the rifle, is a mix of rock river arms (and yes I love there triggers, but buy the chrome trigger, much smoother) chiappa upper in an Anderson sport upper, with a gun show hand gaurd. 2 years ago I missed a bronze medal by 1 point....not gonna happen this year. I don't get it, I can pick up silver and gold in modern military, but I can't get a medal in rimfire sporter. And yes I make the 7.5 pound break, by 6 ounces! 20210712_190312.jpg

If your rifle meets the rules, and you read the rule book (get familiar with the range commands) you will not make a fool of your self. There is a Saturday afternoon class on how to shoot the match, it's free. Or do like I did, showed up early watched, listened made sure I understood...this is a get your feet wet match, easy for beginners, still challenging for us seasoned guys! Camp Perry is an experience!

You can still come out and "dig the doings" plus the shops on vendor row will miss you

Dang, that really looks like a fun shoot to be involved with. I hope it catches on with the several ranges we have up here in Northwestern Wisconsin. Is there anyway that a sample target can be added to your initial post? Would be nice to have a "practice" time to get used to that type of target.

I've never shot in a competition before but it looks like fun. Unfortunately it's not possible for me this year. I have family in Vermont so Sept. is very possible.

Well I shot a 570-16x that earned me a bronze medal, and a 16th place finish in my division.
I shot a second relay, also picked up a bronze with a 168-11x.
We most of the things that make Perry famous, hot weather, ever changing winds, humidity, boat in the impact area, you are on delay.

That's awesome! Go and try the match, super fun but still challenging!
On the CMP website is a how to shoot the match booklet, there is a printable dryfire target, print it out and practice!
Also hit the CMP e-store and get targets (there cheap) and do live fire practice. If you want a target (because the store is closed due to the National Matches, I will mail you one! Just ask!

I found this picture on the CMP website, I'm the guy in grey behind the big guy in yellow. Incidentally the guy in yellow is my shooting partner Alex

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your kind offer sir . I am glad you jogged my memory , it made me realize I had targets . I just found the targets(CMP B-19 C) I bought in 2017 when I planned on making it to Vermont . I better check to make sure that is current target though . This thread has really got sparked my interest . I need to dust off the 22s and get testing ammo.

The CMP B-19 C is the center repair target, but it contains all the black scoring rings, so you are good to practice.
I don't know how much positional shooting you do, but your bench zero and your prone zero will be different
There may be a clinic the day before the match, if your a first time participant it may be well worth it to attend, otherwise be at the match early so you can watch and ask questions.
Having 4 magazines makes the match run smoothly, you have 2 for slow fire and 2 for rapid fire, very easy to fill the 2 magazines in the 2 minutes between stages.

I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted an your progress

Thank you very much . I will check to see if they have a clinic before the match , that would be ideal . Thanks for the info , I was concerned with loading mags and time limits . I forgot the target I have is the repair center , I will make sure to use a backer the official size so I can keep things true to what I will see in a match . I appreciate your time Sir ,

Glad to see you shooting at Camp Perry. I’ll see you all next week down in “the pits”. I’ve been volunteering at Camp Perry for years. It is a great place to be. Lots of good people.
