I began reading his posts shortly after joining the forum some years ago. It didn't take long to realize the knowledge he had of both firearms and reloading. He was always ready to help the newbie and the experienced.
The devotion he had for caring for his wife was outstanding. My prayers go out to his family a may he rest in peace.

He was a real class act, helped me out on several occasions. He will be sorely missed.

A comforting notion to his family might be that over 350 people who likely never met him in person took time to send their best wishes, and remembrances of the helpful insight he offered. That is huge; it is a part of the spirit that makes America such a special place, and to know that there are others out there like him is a bright spot in the universe.
May you rest in peace, knowing all the good you have done for others!

This truly saddens my heart! I have been a member here since 2008 and RC has been the one member's name who I always recognized. I learned very early on that when RC posted, you LISTENED to him. Most other stuff on forums I take a grain of salt, but I learned to trust everything that RC posted. I think RC was the greatest asset this forum has ever seen and it will truly not be the same without him. RC had helped me with an uncountable amount of questions and posts I have had over the years, not to mention added to my knowledge by just reading his posts on various threads. The man was never pulled into any bickering or internet BS and he exemplified what it means by taking The High Road. I have yet to find someone that I would consider his equal in terms of depth of knowledge, generosity, and patience. I hope that maybe someone can print these forum posts out for his family so that they can see what an impact he had on the shooting community and hopefully that can bring them some peace. RC will be GREATLY missed by many on the forum.

His kids are grown, with kids of their own. Last time he mentioned it they were employed, so I doubt they are in need. He worked all his life, retired on a good payout and lived frugally.

Very sad to hear, just had to put my 95 year old mom in a facility because of mental problems. I completley understand.

That's good to know. With his wife being cared for by others now....I know that can sap a lifetime of savings in a hurry.
That he cared for her full time speaks a lot to the character of the man, too. Alzheimer's is not a pretty thing.

Strange how attached you can get to someone on a internet forum. When I first read the news of RC's passing, it felt just like.I lost a long and very good friend.

I'm so saddened to learn of RC's passing. Like an earlier poster I first "met" him when I read his posts on the KTOG forum and when I found my way to THR and saw that he was here too I felt right away that I had found a friendly and knowledgeable group.

He had a way of imparting knowledge without sounding boastful or bullying like many internet posters often do. I never met or spoke to him personally but I felt like he was a friend that I enjoyed listening to. I was surprised to learn that he was three years younger than I am.

I will miss him greatly.

Ed

RC was great. I remember I argued with him once on a topic and he schooled me right away. From then on I would watch others attempt to debate with him, and then wait for them to tuck tail. His posts were always enjoyable, and I cant recall one time where he was incorrect on any topic he spoke on. Any time I posted question he was always quick to chime in, and while I don't find myself needing to ask too many anymore, his answers to others questions always taught me something I didn't know.

This guy was a legend on this forum.
THE source of knowledge in a place where countless folks go for that sort of thing.

You'll be missed RC

Not sure how I missed this.

Really sad news. You will be missed Richard Ballard.

Hopefully he is now enjoying whatever lies beyond waiting on everyone else to get there.

My condolences to the family of a highly respected gentleman. All that knew him or of him will greatly miss his knowledge and character.

Rest in peace Sir

I posted earlier- but some places that do funerals offer a web page posting board. That was offered when my father passed last year. Does anyone know the funeral home handling this fine gentleman? Is this an option for us to let his family know what he meant to us? Thanks, Bob
