Just picked up a G17 MOS and need suggestions on a red dot.

I currently have an FNX Tactical .45 with a Burris Fastfire III but would rather have something else for the G17. Do they make an RMR that doesn’t require a pressure on switch? I’ll probably use the 17 as a home defense nightstand gun.

Much of the answer to this question is going to depend on your budget. Next is going to be what you can find in stock, many gun accessories are out right about now. Top named brands like Trijicon will run you about $500 in most places. Plenty of other quality makers out there like Sig Sauer, Aimpoint, Holosun etc. I have a Holosun 507C on my EDC pistol. The advertised battery life is 10 years, which sounds great to me. It shuts itself off if it stays still for awhile and wakes back up when moved. Several other makers do so as well. I bought mine exactly a year ago for about $300. Haven't had to change the battery yet.

I ended up ordering a SwampFox Kingslayer. Wanted some other optic besides the standard red dot. Mounted easily on my G17.

Burris Fastfire 4 looks interesting. Same footprint as the 3 . Multiple reticles .

Nothing wrong with the Swampfox Kingslayer. The only thing I don't like about them is they do not have the shake and wake feature. Other than that, they are good to go. I have several Kingslayer's on my range pistols and use the Swampfox Liberty or Sentinel on my carry/HD pistols.

Cheap red dots are false economy on any serious use pistol. Trijicon RMR is a superior choice. Pay once, cry once.

True, but my Burris Fastfire III is rock solid on my FNX Tactical 45 is half the price of Trijicon. The Swampfox has good reviews as well. Purchased both for less than a Trijicon.....

Trijicon makes the RMR and they make a dual illumination one that is always on. It has a light gathering fiber that works like trijicons ACOG rifle scope and it also has tritium, thus the “dual illum”

I got convinced to try the new (Fall 2020 release) Bushnell RXS-250, with a list price of $250. The several reviews on YouTube are solid, and the specs are impressive: 50,000 hour (~5 year) battery life, choice of always-on or 12 hour time-out, IP67 level sturdiness, and standard Deltapoint Pro mounting form.
I have not yet used it; it just arrived and is off to a machine shop to install it on my slide. It is out of stock at Bushnell and "currently unavailable" on Amazon, although they did have a few just before Christmas.

Lenny, lol you and I thinking alike. Just ordered 19 mos yesterday.

Midway just told me my vortex venom will be here this week. I struggled hard between that and trijicon but at 1/2 price and never using reflex sight before I chose vortex. Truth be known I'll probably get a trijicon to replace it if I like the reflex sight and put the vortex on my scorpion or an ar.

I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives.
