I shot my ROA without lube over the round balls with a stiff charge of 777 fff. I wonder if it leaded the barrel and if so how could I get it out? Kroil?

Very, very unlikely you leaded the barrel. 'Lube', in black powder terms, is for keeping fouling soft, not preventing leading. Round balls are soft lead, not the hard cast lead used in smokeless cartridges.

ruger old army leading

if yu actually did lead your roa, the easiest way to get it out is by wrapping sum chore boy copper wool around a brush and pushing it out.ive never heard of leading in a cap and ball pistol but hey anything can happen.

Years ago [before I knew any better] I cast up a mess of round balls for a ROA I had [back when they were NEW] and used some recycled .45 acp hard cast in the mix. Long shaggy dog story shortened, I must've got too much alloy in the mix, because I leaded the bore. Some elbow grease, a Bronze bore brush and some Hoppes cleaned it out, but the lesson was learned... only pure lead in cap 'n' ball revolvers, from then on.

leading ?

Ive heard if you exceed 1200 fps from 45 LC soft lead cowboy bullets and no lube ,you get leading Ive seen leading in a small 22 cal revolver, but none in my roa,and i get 1200 fps mv with one 777 load,my bullets are pre lubed and sealed with bore butter no. 11 mag cci cap..................ka bbooooooooommmm:eek:also there is a barrel treatment that protects the barrel also that foam cleaner the tank core uses, i believe that stuff removes leading, i use rubbing alcohol & bronze brush

yep i agree you can lead a BP revolver seems to occur mostly with
close to max loads.

I have not tested this but would it not be better to use a harder lead
alloy if you are going to be shooting heavy loads?

i just clean it with bronze bore brush and hot soapy water just as part
of normal cleaning.
