Rob Pincus & James Yeager on Open Carry (video)

I wasn't going to post, until I saw the videos of the photographer downrange and Yeager's response.

First off, I have seen folks open carry to make a political statement. They strut around like a peacock in heat with that look at me attitude, and frankly I think that kind of display is counterproductive to the RKBA. On the flip side, there are places and circumstances where open carry is the norm and I don't think a thing of it.

As far as the videos, apparently he doesn't understand how many people are alive today because of proper risk management. I better shut up before I call him an a$$ clown or the like. ;)

Funny, while I saw potential risk in the positioning of the photographer - I perceived the risk as being mitigated by 100% awareness of his presence, short range of firing and a fairly well controlled environment. But really - these days. what would it have taken to remote that camera?

Silly? Yup. Worth the risk? Nope. Potential for a whompin' law suit? Absolutely.

But then I sometimes ride a motorcycle without a helmet and the above applies.

I was more distracted by the fella in the white tee shirt doin' the pee-pee dance during firing. Seems he was not clear on all the principals of the days event. Add that to a man in range of muzzle blast with a camera and I start to worry about the environment.

As far as the 9 minute Mea non-Culpa video... I'd have had more respect for a short "we know what we're doin" statement than trying to clumsily change anyone's mind.

Like maybe his "stance" on 1911's being "antiquated" and only striker fired weapons worth considering?

Isn't he the same idiot saying that all handguns should be Glock 19s or something stupid like that? I just wrote that guy off as a Glock fanboy and those are my least favorite gun people. (no offense to those that like Glocks, just those that think it's the best and shove it in others faces.)

Alright. Not much useful here. Two personalities have an opinion and decided to share. Lovely.

One of the great challenges in evaluating the worth of instructors (or other 'celebrity' sorts) is to know when they are 'in their lane' and when they're straying into territory where their thoughts are little (or no) more informed or insightful than those of other interested parties, the 'average man,' and/or even you yourself.

The other great challenge is, of course, to identify and accept when such individuals are speaking from their strengths and their special enlightenment and you should be paying attention.

Sometimes (perhaps here?) it isn't too hard to tell one from the other. ;)

But drifting the conversation into random thoughts about what guns they like or don't like, and rehashing ... notable... past moments of their careers gets us drifting off of the original, worn-out, dead-horse-beat topic.
