Has Any Fired Or Heard Anyhting About The Robinson Armament Xcr Modular Weapon System. I Am Considering Buying One Instead Of An Ar 15 And Was Wondering If There Is Anyone Who Has Fired Or Has Any Reviews Of It

I only have about 1000 rounds through my XCR but I have found it to be an extremly accurate and reliable weapon. It has all of the good ergos of an ar. Miles of rails to attach things. A folding stock and best of all a gas piston that does not crap where it eats. I find myself cleaning it and wondering why. It is rock solid in my book.

I was looking at the XCR as well. Heard some not so great things about how Robinson supports their products....not sure if this is true or not so hopefully someone else who has personal experience in these matters will chime in soon. I ended up going with the SIG-556 instead. I love it! It also has a gas piston system and is very easy to clean...although it really doesn't get that dirty! But, it's still new, and many owners are complaining that SIG isn't making spare parts available yet, along with some other minor gripes.

I have heard that Robinson Arms wants to go out of business. They have enodorsed Mitt Romney and Romney is for another AWB therefore Robarms wants to close shop!!

Last thing I will post on this since it is not the right place for this. I was just outraged by what Alex at Robinson Arms was doing. Kudos to Alex for being willing to reverse himself if he can not get a clear statement that Romney will not ban his guns.

You can read about it here:

These are all neat weapons. Near as I can tell each has a strength and a weakness, or several. I have yet to meet the perfect 223, other than the HK93. Even the HK93 has its issues, including having to have ET thumbs to reach the safety/selector. :)

The XCR is the most versatile rifle on the planet right now...

Its excellent. As far as the weight, I expect its going to be lighter than anything else that even approaches the same level of functionality.

-Piston, long-stroke AK style action
-Free floated monolithic, fully railed upper
-QD barrel allows for caliber swaps

AR ergos, AK style action, plus monolithic upper. What more could you possibly want in a carbine?

I've only put 300 rounds through mine, but here's what I think.

If you're looking for a good solid, accurate, and reliable 5.56 carbine, you will not be disappointed if you get one. I got mine a couple weeks ago and have been really impressed with it.

If your main concern is getting something lightweight with a sweet trigger, or something inexpensive, it probably isn't the place to start.

The extractor thing isn't a big deal. It is addressed in the owner's manual. You basically just need to check that the bolts holding it in are tight. If they aren't, put some loctite on the threads and tighten them.

The first time I took it out, I worked my way back to 300 yards from the target and was keeping the shots in the kill zone of a torso target with iron sights. I'd never really tried that before, so I was impressed. (I was even more impressed that my sks was making the same shots though. ;))

I shot probably close to 140 rounds at a 3-gun competition and it performed flawlessly for me, which is more than I can say for a couple AR's and one Saiga that were being used by guys in my squad. That's always a plus when the seconds count.

Now that I'm through the break in period (300 shots) I can try dialing down the adjustable gas valve to reduce recoil a little. I'm interested to see what kind of a difference that makes.

I have had ny XCR for about a year now and admit to a particular fondness for it....

Reliability

If you follow the instructions on how to break in the weapon, circa 300 rounds, run wet, gas setting on #4 then you will have an EXTREMELY reliable and forgiving weapon.
There are a number or LEO's active on the XCR forum who use the XCR as their duty weapon

Manufacturer reliability

Have a look at the XCR forum as mentioned above and you will see that RA are, in my opinion, the most responsive manufacturer out there.

Alex Robinson and other members of his team (KOLOB and TERRA) are regular and effective contributers to the forum and respond to calls for assistance and enhancements in a very timely fashion.

Users wanted a non tool adjustable gas system, RA brought it out and made sure you can retrofit it on existing rifles
Users wanted the platform in 6.8 SPC and 6.5, they brought it out
Want SBR, no problems they'll engineer it for you
7.62x39 ..taking orders now
Not happy with the different stocks they provide, no worries they provide an adapter to use AR stocks and they're developing their own based on user feedback
Not happy with the trigger, RA are working on a drop in replacement and there is 3rd party support already

SIG....

There's even a SIG 556 owner on the site (SLAG) who admits to having a love affair with his XCR........

Guys,

You're right; there are lots of folks completely satisfied with their XCRs. But at the same time there are others having issues besides the ejector bolts:

http://xcrforum.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=8880fc02889f3a297760f192daded342&board=14.0

When it comes to “Manufacturer Reliability”, remember the M96??

As for the weight, a Colt 6920 starts out at 5.95lbs, add a railed forearm for about 6 more ounces. The XCR starts at about 7.5, by the time you add the normal doo-dads you’re looking at about a 9lb + carbine.

You’re also right that it’s right now the most versatile rifle out there, but there’s some others on the horizon like the SCAR and MASADA that will give it a run for it’s money.

Just some things to think about.

Chuck

Sorry to upset owners, (I'm sure it's a great rifle) but it just seems like a gimmick to me, I'm not interested. If you own one though cool enjoy shooting, it just doesn't do anything for me.

I've just spent some time on Robinson Arms' website reading Alex's position on his Romney endorsement. I'm still going through the AR15.com thread.

Even if this was the best firearm ever made, and had an attachment that would brew dark roast on the fly, I would not be buying it.

A liberal friend of mine once told me that the best vote we have is with our dollars. Vote them with companies that are more attuned with your views.

Robinson Arms will not EVER get my vote. His own words damn him in my eyes.

It is my view, based on the statements and the things NOT addressed by Alex that he has allowed his shared religious views perhaps (I don't know) to overpower other positions.

That's fine. Obviously shared religious affiliation is a greater concern for him that RKBA issues. Many have that same view. I do not, however. I can think of MANY people with the same affiliatino as me that I would NEVER vote for.

A Colt 6920 doesn't have a piston, railed forearm, monolithic upper, folding stock, etc.

Colt tries to avoid selling evil rifles to civis altogether... I don't see everyone calling for a boycott of Colt.

RA actually sells evil rifles directly to civilians. Think I give two ****s who Alex Robinson supports for President? I could care less. Something about a small American company designing, producing, and coming to market first, with a SCAR spec superior rifle, ahead of all the big European companies just makes me all warm inside. Did I mention its a superior rifle?

FN SCAR looks nice, if you could buy one. They don't plan caliber conversions for it. Masada doesn't interest me at this point.

ny32182,

The weight is what it is, doesn't matter if it's a Colt or not, a M4gery or CAR-15 is a lighter rifle. I just used the 6920 as an example. 7.5lbs IMHO is still heavy for a stock carbine.

As for the "superior" rifle, I'd say based on what I've read on the XCR site, that might be a reach at this point. It is innovative, but if you read the number of issues on the XCR forum, then factor in the number of rifles in circulation it just might mean something.

Chuck

All I stated is that any carbine currently on the market with "almost as much" functionality will weigh more, and that is a true statement. The only thing that comes close is an LMT MRP, and it is still DI, saving the weight of the piston. Yes, an AR with no piston and plastic handguards is going to be lighter, of course. It is going to be lighter than anything, because there is nothing but a barrel out front.

I've been a member of the XCR forum from the beginning. There are not "a lot of issues". Some people have had ejectors come loose, which is an easily and permanently fixable problem if you're so inclined.

There are a handful of reported cases of out of spec barrels making it out the door, but overall, they are the extreme minority. They are selling the rifles faster than than they can make them. The "big" dealers seem to get their orders bumped to the front of the line, which is standard practice I imagine... I ordered one rifle and was waiting for 3 months.

Sorry to upset owners, (I'm sure it's a great rifle) but it just seems like a gimmick to me,
The newest generation of tacticool rifes (FN SCAR, Masada, XCR) are basically "product-improved" rifles with all of the stuff retrofitted onto ARs and AKs (rails, flat tops, changable barrels, adjustable LOP and cheek height) designed in from the onset, combined with some stuff the AR cannot do (folding stock).

Assuming the rifles work as advertised, they're no gimmick. All of the features included on the rifles are things that are desirable and (mostly all) combat tested. Of course, the real question is how well the finished product works. the XCR seems to be doing pretty well.

Mike

Oh, I forgot to mention the controls are an improvement over an AR IMO. I don't know if the bolt hold open/release is a copy of another rifle, or if they came up with that on their own, but it is pretty slick. You can reach it with your trigger finger while maintaining your grip and it is ambidextrous too. And with the FAL style charging handle you can work the bolt while keeping the gun in the firing position (i.e. your face isn't in the way.) I also like that I can fold the stock if I ever want to.

Gunnerpalace,
You didn't upset me. :D I wonder what you mean by gimmick? If it is just because it is new and has some cool features I think you're dismissing it too easily.

Here's some pictures of the one I got (there's a good shot in there of the bolt hold open/release):

Regarding the Romney thing, I agree that Alex made a somewhat flabbergasting boo boo by coming out to support Romney without even knowing that Romney supports assault weapons bans. Now he is trying to get Romney to change, which is a worthwhile effort in my opinion. In fact I've been trying to get gunowners to do the same for a while now over in the activism forum:
http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=326005
I've gotten a little bit of a taste of what Alex is dealing with. I'm amazed how determined gun owners are to not even tell Mitt why he is wrong. If all the vitriol that was being spewed at Romney and Alex over at ar15.com made it on to the comments feature on Romney's website, it might make him sit up and take notice of the gunowners in this country that don't buy for a second his line that he supports the second amendment.

What I meant by gimmick is the level of hype they are giving it, it just doesn't appeal to me I'm more interested in the SCAR, Civie XM8, 416. Sounds neat (I'm all for Accuracy and Reliability) but when I look at it it's kinda  . Maybe next version will have me as a buyer though.

The customer service and support for the XCR is excellent. Spare parts are easy to get so if you are really worried you can stock up now. The ejector bolt thing is not really an issue. Loctite the bolts when you get the gun and you are good to go.

The internet has a way of blowing almost everything out of proportion and Slag is there to catch anything it misses.

The XCR is "just another" SCAR entry rifle. If the XCR is a "gimmick", so is the FN SCAR rifle, Masada, 416, etc. They are all designed to meet the same set of functional characteristics.
