I have wanted a 1911A1 style pistol in the Commander length for a while, so when I saw this on Saturday I decided to grab it. It didn’t have everything I wanted, but it was as close as I was going to get in the current market. Since I don’t have to bother with the silly waiting period I was able to take it home and shoot it immediately. I ran 400 rounds of ball ammo through it to break it in. I experienced several feeding failures where the slide wouldn’t close and lock, but it took only a shove with my hand to get it closed. Twice the slide failed to lock open at the end of a magazine, but that was limited to one of the magazines that came with my Sig 1911. There were zero failures to fire or eject. Afterward I fired two magazines of Federal HST hollow points and it fed them all without a hiccup.

I didn’t really shoot for accuracy yet, I was really just out to shoot some rounds through to get it broken in. I was shooting steel plates from about 40’ and was consistently making them ring. (Since the plates are different size and shape, the ring alternates back and forth, sounds cool)

Other than the feeding failures, maybe ten times in 400 rounds, the only criticism I have is that there are some very sharp edges on the gun, and I lost a little chunk of my left index finger when it got caught between the magazine and the gun. I expect it will need some serious dehorning in the immediate future. The trigger is somewhat gritty, not at all as nice as my Sig 1911, but for a $400 pistol it isn’t bad.

My plans are to have it tuned a little for reliability, dehorned, and I have some Pachmayr grips and an arched mainspring housing coming. Other than that it will remain pretty much stock.

As new, cleaned the packing grease off:

It takes a while to shoot 400 rounds!

Wear gloves, it helps.
