I am going down to Cabela's tomarrow to pickup a Rock Island 1911. Do they have a website that I could look through all of there guns? I dont think that they have more than a few different Rock Islands and I want to get what I like best.
Thanks

:)

Armscor builds 'em in the Philippines
Armscor Precision /Advanced Tactical sells 'em in the US

However, Rock Island Armory is a brand owned by Twin Pines Inc.
of the Philippines, and their website is also worth a peek:

Cheers,

I am absolutely in love with my RIA .45 pistol. Pick up extra magazines if you can, because it only comes with one mag. However, the Novak mag that comes with it is outstanding. I have put over 1000 rounds through mine, and it is extremely accurate and reliable. Expect a couple of jams for the first 100-200 rounds or so, but after that, it will be very very smooth and super reliable. It is now my carry gun, with only a slight modification (I bought some WWII style GI "coltwood" plastic grips on it, as I thought the original wood grips were too slippery). The only other thing that I would do to this pistol would be to put some larger sights on it, but otherwise, this gun is utterly reliable and a tack driver. Definitely worth the cash.

Cabela's has Rocks? I haven't seen any in mine.

It would be ironic indeed if one of these outshot my "premium" 1911 that cost two and a half times as much.

Also, I believe that the same company that makes Rocks also makes the slides and frames for the STI Spartan.

Buy the tactical!!!!! I bought a 1911A1 Rock and love it, but want a tactical. Not much more in purchase price, but the tactical comes with better sights (easier to upgrade too with the dovetail mounts) a beavertail and better trigger and hammer. The normal upgrades everybody ends up doing to the 1911A1 anyways. Chuck.

You know, now that you mention it, I've shot Kimbers and they're not really all that much better than my Rock Island in terms of accuracy. The higher end "premium" 1911's sure look a whole lot better, and have nicer bells and whistles, and probably have better theoretical accuracy, but to be completely honest, I can't really tell the difference when it comes to putting lead on targets. I can shoot groups the size of a quarter at about 15-20 feet away very very easily with this pistol (see pic below), and that is more than enough for me, and with enough practice, I'm sure I can get tighter groups at longer distances too. In short, the Rock Island can shoot alot better than I can, and pleasantly suprised me. I was expecting a gun I could shoot every once in a while with OK reliability and so-so accuracy, that I bought mainly just so I could say I owned a 1911, and instead received a gun that is utterly reliable and super accurate. I'd definitely buy another one.

Those are the pros, but everything has it's cons. To be fair, I feel the trigger could be lighter, the sights should be bigger, and the finish should be nicer (it's a black park finish that can scratch pretty easily.) I also didn't like the grips, and I'm actually partial towards an arched mainspring housing, but these are all things that can easily be fixed, and to be honest, this IS supposed to be a no frills plain Jane GI style 1911, so what more can I ask for?

Oh, here's that grouping pic:
It was shot at about 25 feet and the center orange dot is about the size of a quarter, or maybe a 1-2mm larger than a quarter. The 3 rounds outside the group were because I was trying to aim for the center, and was adjusting my aim. Not perfect, but pretty good for a "budget" 1911.

I guess I will give you all an update.
I went out the day after to pick up the 1911 but of course they all sold out 2 days after they were put in the magazine. I ended up driving back to sportmans warehouse that is 25 miles away. We then decieded to go back to cabelas were I still was unsure of what to get. Then once again, I went back to sportsmans.
I then decieded I would go with the Ruger P345. I know it was a completly different choice but I was not worried. I will be picking up the 1911 as soon as I hear about some one that has one local.
If there are any locals here that know of somebody that has the RI 1911's in.... let me know so I can go snatch one up.

Google "FFL Arizona" - pick one close to you, phone them and ask them if they're willing to receive transfers and what they charge - $25 or so seems average.
