I am getting ready to buy one of these and noticed one has a 1/9 twist and the other has a 1/8 twist. Both have 20 inch barrels. I am going to be using this gun for shooting all types of things. Hogs, P dogs, Coyote's, Deer(and please I know this is not an ideal deer gun, I might use it once or twice. I have big cals. for big game) I was told a 1/8 twist will still shoot a 36 grain barnes varmint granade because it is a longer bullet and will still stabilize. So figure 36-75 grain(Rem. Sirracos). Also is the ace stock really better then the standard A2 stock? Can you give me your thoughts.........

If you have these guns what grains and types of rounds are you using?

I have a Predator Pursuit .223 upper with the 1:8 twist. This upper has a 3/4" moa rating per RRA. I believe that it's about a pound lighter than the varminter.

I bought it to shoot heavy bullets at long range. In Jan. I took this setup to GPS Sniper School in AZ, where I was shooting 77 gr HPBT bullets (Silver State Armory (SSA)).

It had outstanding accuracy. I made consistent hits out to 1200 yds with it. This rifle made moa hits all day at extended ranges.

The 1:8 twist rate is great for stabilizing the heavier bullets. Soon I plan on working up some of my own loads, which will most likely use bullets in the 50-77 gr range.

I can't really speak to the very light bullets that you mention.

I was browsing predator masters yesterday and they have a coyote edition 2010 ar that looks kind of cool. They are taking orders until May 1st.

I joined predator masters but havent even posted there yet. I think that rifle is chambered in 223 instead of 556. But still, it's something to look at to compare against.

You may not be able to shoot the varmint grenades with the faster twist barrel. If you get it spinning too fast it will come apart. I know folks that have done it. That said, I would go with the faster twist only if you plan on shooting the really heavy bullets.

I spoke to a guy at that works with barnes a bit and he said they tested the 36 grain vg in the 1/8 and the reason they worked was they were a longer bullet then normal. Does that sound right.

OK the predator masters rifle is 223/556 - that's what it says on the receiver.

I don't have any secondary gain for the rifle - but I think it's cool for a forum to get a firearm or upper. I don't know how the cost compares to other ar's - it seems reasonable to me. I'm sure others with more black rifle knowledge will chime in.

As for the twist and the barnes guy - yeah...I'm no expert, nor have I stayed at a Holiday Inn express recently. But the twist rate is determined by the length of the projectile which gets converted to weight. Hmm there's a good link I'll find and edit/post this message.

My experience with RRA's customer service under warranty is ALL BAD.

My Predator Pursuit likes Sierra 60gr Varminters best. I will load some heavier bullets some day, but don't have a range longer than 300yrds to shoot at.

My limited use of RRAs warranty has been without question, second to none. Anybody that will replace used scope rings, off an old style base, that I broke, without any questions, ain't half bad. They also shipped me out a bolt stop for my 9mm, that broke using a non factory magazine, again no questions asked
