I went to Dixie the other day. They had some "London Armoury" finish R&S revolvers. This is a greige dull finish. I was thinking maybe a conversion cylinder, faux ivory grips and repro British leather. Anybody have experience with these? The principal use would be CAS/reenacting. I like this style of revolver. I have limited experience with them. How durable are they?

Rogers and Spencer

I like em. Don't know what the ones are like from Dixie. Available at Navy Arms. Here is the blurb on it from their website.

ROGERS AND SPENCER ARMY MODEL, .44 CAL.
One of the strongest and most accurate revolvers of the Civil War period, the Rogers and Spencer was originally manufactured towards the end of the war in Utica, N.Y. It saw service as late as the Spanish-American war fighting Moro tribesmen in the Philippines._ This fine replica features all steel construction and hand rubbed walnut stocks._ Bbl. Length: 7 1/2"; O.A.L.: 13 3/4"; Weight: 3 lbs.; Rec. Ball. Dia: .451 R.B.; Mod. No. RSR100 - $363.00

Dad has one there is a pic here somewhere...

The R&S is reinactor "legal" but was never issued. Most were sold off to a scrap metal dealer after the civil war for change. A real one is fairly rare to find.

The one dad has is easy to load with the big scallops around the nipples but the machining in this area is a little rough. Grip is like a plow handle compared to a Colt Army. Think the recommended charge is something like 22 gr of powder and a .451 180 gr lead ball.
