Rubber Vs Scentlock boots (Opinions please)

My old pair of Rockies have finally taken a dirt nap. I need new boots
and the deer I have been hunting for years seem to have wised up to
me. I am finally going to listen to all those that preach scent control.
Do I need a new pair of rubber boots for archery deer hunting and a
pair of hunting boots for all my other hunting or can I just get a good
pair of Scent lock hunting boots?
I was at Gander Mountain today and they had Rockies and Scent lock
brand boots with Scent lock. They cost a little more but are cheaper
than buying 2 pair of boots.

1. How effective is Scent lock?

2. How long until the Scent lock part wears out?

I am just not convinced that the scent thing is of any importance. Unless you are hunting a wilderness area, the deer accept the smell of hunters in the woods as a natural part of their enviroment.

I disagree. Scent (or lack of) is important, especially if bowhunting.
If you hunt with a rifle and the wind always in your face it probably doesn't matter so much. Most rubber boots don't leave significant scent unless you walked thru gasoline, dog poo, etc. You have to do your part to keep them scent free.
2 years ago I parked the truck, suited up, and grabbed my bow, when all of a sudden I hear yelling, cussing, etc. the landowner had a young horse get loose and I helped him corner the horse and get him into a corral. Yes, I stepped in some horse excrement. I walked across the hayfield to go to my stand to hunt that night and watched 3 different deer follow my track across that field. one 6 pt buck kept losing it and doubling back and following it like a bird dog until he came under me and sniffed my stik ladder.
The wind can work for you, or against you. minimizing scent can help. not magic but it helps.

It's been my experience that almost any rubber boot will help to control your scent. I got a pair of Muck boots for Christmas a couple years ago. One of the best hunting-related gifts I've ever received. Rubber boots are a lot more comfortable than they used to be. Go try some on and find what your feet like.

I am a bowhunter primarily and prefer rubber boots. The ones i wear have an integrated heel cup and are very comfortable. Besides being waterproof, they definitely keep down the amount of scent being spread. I can't tell you how many times I've been in my treestand and had deer, even does with fawns, walk right over my trail or bed down right next to my stand.

I'm with Mannlicher, don't worry about scent. I do have rubber boots, though, a pair of Lacross All Temps I've been wearing for years. And, i ain't a bow hunter, sticks and strings are for Geronimo and even he figured out Winchesters worked better. Actually, I just can't shoot a bow and don't wanna learn. I'm right handed and left eye dominant (right eye blind) and shoot left handed, but can't figure out how to draw a bow left handed and don't like to go that low tech anyway. If I want primitive, I have a smoke pole.
