What do you guys think about this? Will it be worthy? Sounds like fun

I found this at Cabela's website

In 1861, Dr. Richard Gatling developed a hand-crank operated, multibarrel firearm destined to become the world's first gun capable of firing multiple rounds in sustained bursts. This kit enables you to capture a taste of what it must have been like to fire the legendary Gatling gun by converting two Ruger 10/22 rifles (not included) into a twin-barrel modern rendition in .22 caliber. Fun and affordable to shoot, the machined aluminum kit features bronze bushings, a trigger bar on thrust bearing, aluminum receiver covers, anti-aircraft-style sights, swivel feet, barrel guards, muzzle brakes and limit screws. Rate of fire is four rounds per crank revolution. Assembles in minutes with ordinary hand tools. Classified semi-auto, so no special BATF permit is needed.

I wish they'd stop calling them Gatling guns. Closer to a Gardner if anything.

Gatling gun invented in 1861 capable of firing continuous bursts of fire and relies on external power. Gatling-type weapons diverted gas from the barrels to spin the rotating barrels.

Gardner gun invented in 1874 it was an early type of machine gun and was operated by a crank.

Similarities I guess, both relied on external power (the crank). Anyway I'm not trying to start a war I'm just saying they're similar it just looks like the gardner didn't have rotating barrels. Anyway i was just trying to see what you guys think about this ruger Gatling/gardner gun? I just thought that it might be fun to shoot

It's always good to read the reviews on their site......

"i bought this kit and i think the over all design is not very good and i couldv'e designed it way better. it kept shaking the screws loose after a few shots and it wouldnt function very well. the material used for barrel shrowds are as thin as a soda can. the tripod is a very nice piece though. if your in the market for a nice tripod get the tripod and use it and throw the rest of the kit away.i returned it the very next day and am still awaiting to get my money back."

And I really agree the Gatling terminology is way off, it has as much in common with the Gatling gun as I do with Cindy Crawford.

"Fun gun to shoot and look at and well made. Its worth the money if you can swing it"

"Easy to put together, well made and everyone loves to shoot it. Well worth the money"

"this little kit is so much fun, not recommended for hunting though"

I guess it depends on the kit you get

My point was that Cabelas and everyone else who sells those hand crank adapters calls them Gatling guns. Gatling's innovation was rotating barrels powered by the hand crank. He wasn't the first or the last to invent a hand crank machine gun, but all the others had fixed barrels.

I mentioned Gardner because the thing you posted is much closer to one, as those guns usually had twin fixed barrels.

Well that's the picture they got in their site. You're suppose to use 2 Rugers 10/22 to get the "thingy" :p to work. Some say is a piece of &*^%$% and some say is real fun and nice, so who knows.

I'm more than a little confused Highfive, ya post a thread apperantly asking if anyone has any experience with a kit ya found on Cabela's then when someone gives ya there hands on impression ya quote the sellers advertising to counter the negative opinion of the only person who has ordered one and returned it the next day...........

WHAT exactly is the point of the thread? Are you or are you not looking for actual information regarding the kit? WHY would ya quote a marketing ad in response to a negative reply? ya do understand that advertisers seldom post negative comments or reviews regarding the product they are attempting to sell right?

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

dstorm1911, I just popped into this thread to see what it was all about and couldn't help but do a double-take with your post.

Rather than fly off the handle (never necessary), you should take notice that all highfive did was retort to SigFanUSAF quoting a review posted on another site, by quoting other reviews on the same site.

a THR member has yet to come forward with any personal experience regarding the product being discussed.

That's at least as far as I can see.

Simple misunderstanding I would imagine.

Basically my point was that there is good reviews about the gatling/gardner whatever the heck is weapon and are bad reviews as well. Like i said some people said is a piece of $%$%*&^ and some say is fun and good. Like cheese said I just would like to know if somebody knows anything about this thing.

Well, I have actually shot one of these things, and I can tell you that it is pretty darn fun, regardless of what you want to call it. I would actually like to build one myself for the fun factor, to be honest.

(stepping up to the pulpit)
One thing that I will say is that if you use plastic-lipped magazines in it, your gonna get jams. Plastic-lipped magazines for the 10-22, as a whole, are craptastic. Steel-lipped mags, on the other hand, generally work pretty well. If your not particularly knowledgable about the mags, it's pretty easy to blame the gun for problems when it really just boils down to the mags.
(stepping down from the pulpit)

Anyway, they are more or less useless for anything other than wasting a lot of .22's, but they look neat and are fun. Plus, they are relatively inexpensive given that you don't permanently modify anything on the 10/22. You get tired of your little gatling/gardner thing, you take the rifles out, put them back in the stocks, and there you go. $400.00 bucks is a little pricey for a shell if you don't end up liking it, but considering that an actual gatling gun or machine gun will cost many times more than that, it's not bad.

Late answer sorry. TimboKhan gave me a good view of the gun (let's just call it that for now) lol It really sounds pretty fun I will have to think about it (real hard) in order for me to get one. I'll keep thinking for now because the hunting rifle I want goes first in the list. :D but maybe just maybe I will go and have some fun with one of those one of these days :D
