Hey all, so last week I ordered a Ruger 10/22 and the FFL I sent it to had to ship it back Becuase a part of it wasn’t legal here in NY. The stupid thing about all of this is they didn’t even include it in the description of it. What was illegal is that it came with a threaded barrel. Obviously a threaded barrel in NY on a semi is a no no. So now I’m looking at the Ruger American model 1151. Do all the Ruger Americans come with a threaded barrel? because I’m not trying to go through that again. It says 6 grooves in the description not sure if that’s important. Thanks all.

What model/version did you order? I've been looking at these and don't really want a threaded barrel.

They still make 10/22's with unthreaded barrels, don't they? I still see them for sale around here in western NY state. I believe Ruger produces barrels both ways on a lot of their stuff depending on where it will be sold. Like the PC Carbines they sell here are all unthreaded.

The ruger American is a nice rifle, I've owned 4 and think I had the first one in Orange county. Nice action, after a few box they smooth up nicely. Very accurate to, I prefer the 22''. Tho the ruger is very nice, if you can afford a CZ rifle that would be a good choice to.

Can't tell much about the 10-22 without a pic. If still wanting a semi get one with a mag tube, you can load as many 22's as you like in them.

A quick visit to the Ruger website shows they have 60-70 current models of .22LR chambered 10/22. Some have threaded barrels, some don't. I don't know NY laws, so I can't say which are NY legal or not, but there are lots of options out there and I'm sure you can find one to your liking if the threaded barrel was the only problem with the one you ordered.

Sounds like you ordered a Tactical or Competition model. Most of those come with a threaded barrel or some type of thread on muzzle device. I would recommend a wood stock, plain model to comply with draconian NY law.

I live in NY and I have many a threaded barrel rifle. You can't have it threaded if its a semi-auto because the threads make it more lethal. But threads don't make single shots, lever actions, pumps or bolt actions more deadly. Hence they are legal in NY. So get a Ruger 10/22, just skip the threaded barrel. Or get your Ruger American (I bet it will shoot nice) with a threaded barrel if they come that way or without. Your choice.

Does the 10/22 model 1151 have a threaded barrel?

Ya it's ugly but has some good features, it's nicer to shoot from a bench of prone. If will fit in normal gun cases, last trip to my dads it packed easy into the Alice pack loonwulf sent me. The grip even feels natural to me.

About the stock, I've read it supposed to increase felt recoil. I'd say there's less now then when I had a carbine stock on, Hurd some say it can hurt the web of your thumb but after shooting a good bit I don't get any discomfort. Guys also said you can't reach the mag relase, I have medium hand with a lot of padding and my finger still goes last the release.

The gun shoots good to, even with the red dot it will hold under 1 inch at 50 yards.
