Ruger Blackhawk Trigger Adjustment

[.41 magnum man]

I have a .41 mag. Ruger Blackhawk, and i want to make the trigger pull lighter. I already did what is calles a "poor boy trigger adjustment" which is to take off one of the grips and unhook one side of the spring. I don't remember the name of the spring. I'm not very knowledgeable about technical language. It lightened the pull a good bit, but not enough. In order for me to be most accurate, I need to make it even lighter. Can anyone tell me how to do it on these revolvers?

A Shop Manual Volumes 1 & 2 By Jerry Kuhnhausen

'Jerry' will and can answer most if not all your questions, his ability to break it down is good.
Now if you don't want to go this way! Go to "Midway's" get a 'Wolf' Spring kit or two. There will be 3 springs in a kit.
Disassemble; and clean all parts with your favorite soap and water
Dry with a hair dryer or something; sooner than later.
Lay all parts in there proper orientation.
Get some 1000 grit wet and dry sandpaper [auto paint and body]
Place sandpaper on FLAT surface and commence.
Remove any and all rough surfaces, [polish]
Wash and Clean
Lightly oil and re-assembly

Touching up the Sear or facing parts? Can, and has been done by first timers, but limit this to your confidence level.

Will this improve your perceived pull? Yes
Will this improve your shooting? Yes

Will this improve your ATTITUDE It had better

Hi Neophyte1,

Thanks for all the advice. The more I work the trigger on this Ruger the more I feel that the pull weight is fine, I just have a little creep. If I could get that out then I probably will be good to go. Will doing the sanding on the rough parts fix the creep problem?

The Poor boys Trigger Job is more than just unhooking the spring. It also describes how to smooth hammer/sear surfaces and remove burrs by "marrying" the surfaces together: Follow this link for the article:http://www.gunblast.com/Poorboy.htm
If you still have creep after doing this then you'll have to stone a small release angle on the sear(trigger).

.41 magnum man: Sir, sanding, polishing, and de-edging will not take any of the creep out.
What will it give you
Smother, less friction,more control,

The only way to remove creep is to work on the Sear, the notch that the trigger sits in.

Look at the page "Joe Hatley" sent. about half way down you'll see the sear.
Am I qualified to tell you how to do this.

ANSWER: Defentively NO

Did I do it myself with basic book learning? It can be done.
The 'dog leg' quick repair removes only pressure, is it even, does it matter
I don't know. I've done it, but prefer all three spring; which will give better? adjust ability.
Again this will not change the creep.

,jaybar and Joehatley, have found you excellent sites with well written articles.
My advice: read them carefully and print them out, and study the ideas,
and process before you start. Do not screw up the Hammer.
Ruger, or Brownell if Brownell still has them, Ruger will not send you one. So Be careful
