Ruger Gunsight Scout..308

After years of wanting one I picked one up Friday for what feels like a decent price, it was $889 minus 10% sale price ( took care of the sales tax)plus $100 worth of ammo.
I picked up the blacked out one with the black synthetic stock, it came with 1 10 round mag, a set of scope rings and some other stuff I haven't looked at in the box. I took it straight home slapped a red dot on it and since I pretty blind zeroed it at 50 yards .

Shooting of that stick I called that shot close enough with me wiggling around.
It has the same 360* drilled muzzle brake as my 350L MPR and I have to say it is very effective because the recoil is very light for a sub 7lb rifle.



I don't own a scout scope but my Leopold 1.5-4 ×20 VX freedom has a pretty generous eye box so I reversed a cantilever AR scope mount and mounted it all the way back on the rail and put the scope in it , I haven't had a chance to tweak and zero it yet but that's coming up in a couple of weeks.

All in all I'm tickled to death to finally own one of these rifles ☺

You know going from 7.62 to 9mm really makes that 350L look fat

And like most fat kids it's a lot slower than the skinny one ...by about 620 feet per second lol

Good for you! I own the Ruger Scout in .450BM with walnut stock and it is a beast in the woods for deer, I have thoroughly enjoyed it and the round. I roll my own with a 300 grain JHP. Initially I tried the scout mount for the scope and did not like it, I pulled the rail and plugged the holes. I pulled the iron sights and mounted the scope rings on the receiver with a 3x9x40 scope, an awesome setup now for the Michigan woods I hunt in. Scored a 6 and 8 point this season, each a single shot with good shot placement. Even with the compensator the .450 roars with a unique sound, or so my hunting buddy says.

I have the same model. Synthetic stock and muzzle break. At the time, my son just got his first good job after getting out of the Marines a year earlier. So I got him one too. You’re going to like this rifle. I upgraded the trigger, added an XS Rail and a non scout scope. Five rounder works great for hunting.

I highly recommend the Burris 2.5x20 scout scope if your actually looking to follow Cooper’s concept closely. Also, an Andy’s Leather Rhodesian sling in biothane is very light and a good shooting aid. You did well in picking the synthetic stock version. The laminate stock looks good, but is a solid pound heavier.

If that's the best that red dot will do at 50 yards, then do yourself a favor and put something else on it.

I’m a big fan of the Ruger GSR, the m77 action combined with their hammer forged barrels is a perfect combination. I’m partial to the matte stainless but yours is nice. You’ll be glad that you went with the synthetic stock.

Those stocks don't have to be ugly. You can really improve the looks by hydro dipping it in a pattern of your choice.

To be honest, I like the black. I thought the laminated stock too heavy so I went with the black.

I still don't quite get why Leupold* doesn't make that scope with a reticle focus like Burris does. Most true scout rifle aficionados don't have young eyes anymore.

*Ooops. Looks like Leupold discontinued that fixed power scope, and Weaver discontinued their scout scope some time ago. Seems like red dots and LPVOs have all but killed the fixed power scout scope market.

True sadly. I’m glad Burris still makes theirs. It’s an excellent optic and is super lightweight and compact.

Worth trying the factory issue sights to revisit the 20th century shooting experience, IMO.

For polymer stocks, those particular GSR stocks are pretty nice.

Regarding the laminated stock models, the stock is the muzzle brake.

I love the appearance of the Ruger Scout but always wished it came in a standard length action. But congrats on the new gun. They look very utilitarian.

I gotta admit, I'd have a hard time shooting out of that fold up rocking chair with a shooting stick, too.

I guess that chair is good at recoil abatement, though. Lol.

One of mine has a red dotand I used a riser so I can use the open sights without removing anything.

that group is hardly good for shotgun slugs. you should let another guy shoot it. it has to do better then that. with the irons if the rifle is capable I could at 50 yds shoot it into a ragged hole.
