IMO, go with a 9mm vs. the .380

Reason is now a days you can get a really compact pocket 9 for just a smidge bigger.

If you look at the LCP vs. the keltec pf9 or some kahrs, you'll see a marginal difference, and you'll have a cheaper easier to find caliber to shoot.
 
After a lot of thread reading and other web research, ending up with Bobo's sticky, I was pretty sure that the KT P3AT was going to be my first pocket gun. However, found a friend that had one and took him to lunch and then the range to let me shoot it.

1. I'm not overweight but have fairly large hands and the index finger wouldn't fit well in front of the trigger. Had to kind of work the finger in. Comparison pictures make it look like the LCP may have a slightly larger index finger opening. The trigger pull seemed very smooth but really long.

2. We were shooting reloads. Out of nearly 40 rnds, one FTF due to a raised primmer (my bad) and about 10 FTE. Determined that all the FTE casings were split. Then noticed that another 5 or so that did eject were split. The primers showed no overpressure indications. We then shot my old Husqvarna WWII 380 and what I think I remember as my freind's Khar with no split cases. Now I'm thinking the KT maybe has a slightly larger chamber than the others. Will be looking into this further.

I really prefer something that will fit in the pocket without pulling my shorts down. Anything over 15-16 oz. is over my desired limit. The recoil of these light guns doesn't bother me but the finger needs to easily get onto the trigger and reloads need to fire well for the economical practice. Now it's back between the LCP and maybe the LCR.
 
I have several pocket pistols. I had the P3AT and sold it to get the LCP. I was a little freaked about all the work recommended (fluff and buff?) on a new P3AT. I have the Seecamp in .380 and love it but the LCP is lighter. Every pocket pistol I've shot was miserable to shoot but I didn't buy them for plinking.
 
Well I just had my first opportunity to shoot my LCP. I am highly impressed. The recoil is not nearly as bad as what I had feared after reading alot of peoples comments. I only had time to go through 40 rounds but I did not have one single failure to feed. I could have kept on shooting easily. As long as you get a good grip on it recoil is pretty tame if you ask me especially for such a light weight gun. I shot pretty well with it. 8 yards is as far as I practiced with it as any distance beyond that you are going to have alot of explaining to do to the authorities(if defending yourself). The funny thing is that I actually seemed to shoot smoother and better while firing rapidly. That one is a first for me. I have big hands and dont know if for some reason that would contribute to that. All I can say is that I am impressed and would have no concerns about relying on this little fire ball to defend myself.
 
Love my lcp now that i put a ct on it. Easier to shoot left or right handed . As far as the two shot extension by pearce(ajchenmph), feels good and no problems so far. I do have a ten shot clip and am not too crazy about the feel. It protrudes into the grip range of my paw and unlike the two shot extension,does not feel natural.had they put a piece on the section of the clip where it meets the handle,it would be fine.guess i'll duck tape it like every mcgyver does.
 
I love the LCP. Super easy to conceal with the crossbreed microtuck. Sags a little in the front because the microtuck only has one clip, but still rides well. comfortable driving, walking, eating, whatever. accurate gun, and I have not had any problems in 250+ rounds. I shot 100 of those rounds last week. My only complaint is that my trigger finger hurt pretty good after a hundred pulls of the long trigger. but without any external safety, i like the long trigger pull. the LCP makes concealed carry easy.

also, I shot a magazine of Federal HS just to see what the hubbub was all about. 6 rounds fired just fine, like everything else I've fed through it. Federal HS seems ok to me.
 
Can anyone comment on the way Corbon performs in the LCP. I am reading that Federal Hydra Shocks can be an issue?

I cannot comment on the reliability in the LCP because I have not tried them yet but I did contact Ruger about the CorBon 90gr JHP's and the DPX's. Even though neither of these are rated +P they are still hotter than most standard loads. I wanted to know if it would be ok to shoot these in the LCP since you are not supposed to use +P rounds in it. They told me that both rounds are ok for use in the LCP. At the muzzle, CorBon 90gr JHP produces 1050 feet per second performance and 220 ft lbs of energy. Those are very good numbers for a non +P round in .380.

I can see one of those in my pocket some day, as a backup or even a primary in some situations. My Kahr PM9 is a little large for some of my pockets, and adds a bit more weight than I like if carried as a second gun.

I almost bought a PM9 when I bought my LCP. I really, really liked the Kahr but what ultimately sold me on the LCP was the fact that I could conceal it under basically any circumstances possible except being at the pool in swimming trunks lol. The primary way I was looking to carry was front pocket carry. The LCP in a Blackhawk size 1 pocket holster is unbelievably comfortable and hides well. While you can pocket carry the kahr it just wasnt the same in my pocket. I will probably buy a PM9 eventually but right now I wanted something I could always have on me.

Thank you for your reply. So the Corbon 90 should be a fine performer. I had purchased a few boxes at the time I placed my order. Can hardly wait till my "purchase order" and amended permit come through so I can pick up my new gun. It's been a week already and I hope it comes through next week.

Just bought an LCP yesterday, I already love it.
My only complaint is that the grip is so small (big hands) that my finger ends up at a funny place on the trigger. Hopefully, with more range time it will feel a little better.
Actually I have one more complaint: I can't find ammo! The gun shop sold me a box from the stash they keep in the back to sell along with guns, but the shelves out front were bare. This ammo shortage is getting old.

I hear ya on the ammo. I did just find some at a a "decent" (better than local at least) price online. Locally, I have been able to get some 380 range ammo but for not less than $30 a box. SD ammo has been non-existent locally and online since I got mine a few weeks ago.

With that said. This week, Natchezss got some 380 range ammo in for $18 a box on one day. I got 4 boxes and I think it was sold out in under 4 hours. Then, another day this week, they had some Golden Sabers in stock for about $22 a box and I got a few.

So hang in there. Look constantly online.
 
I've only had 1 or 2 FTF with my LCP and it was with Corbons. It was also one of the first mags I fired through my LCP so that may have been a new gun issue. I carry my LCP with Federal Hydrashoks. It feeds them just fine.
 
Amazingly enough, I've been able to build a small stockpile (~300 rounds) of .380 ammo. Cabela's in Hamburg, PA actually had some in stock the last time I went through -- they tend to have a lot of Buffalo Bore .380 ammo, and I actually got two boxes of CCI Blazer (*cough* yeah, I know *cough*) for about $16 per box.

Just put in a Cabela's online order of PMC Bronze for 1200 rounds and have them ship it to you when they finally come in...it should get in before 2011. ;)

Back on topic: can't wait to get my LCP, just need to move over to PA first...which will be mid-November. :D
 
I just thought of something;

I wonder if the "present" relatively low selling price of the LCP is a direct result of the .380 shortage? I have seen most of them selling for just over $300 which seems like quite a steal for this gun.
 
Well, the MSRP is $347 per the Ruger site...?

I was told (have yet to go and actually confirm) that a LEO-friendly store outside Philadelphia is selling them for $239 to LE/military. Plan is to stop in and check it out in the very near future...

I had a bad experience with Natchez trying to purchase the Golden Saber's last week.
I ordered 2 boxes last Thursday. I received my order yesterday and inside the box was 1 box of 380 and 1 box of 45. I proceeded to call last night and they told me that I would have to tape on the return label and take it to UPS and drop it off and ship it back for a refund. I left my office today and drove across town to the UPS store. They proceeded to tell me that I could NOT drop off ammo at the counter that Natchez had to send a pickup ticket to UPS to pick it up from me. I went back to my office called Natchez again and pretty much I just got a "sorry." All the while paying them $14.19 shipping charges to get two small boxes of ammo. They told me that they would email me a UPS label, which I still have not got. So now I am out my $14.19 shipping, 30 minutes of work at my office and about a gallon of gas for them sending me on a wild goose chase. All for a "sorry." Any one can make a mistake but I am not happy with them. They didnt even offer to strike the shipping charges or give me a % of my next order or anything. I WOULD NOT recommend shopping with them at this point. I will let you know if my opinion changes.
 
Any price under $300 for a brand new 371xxx Ruger LCP is outstanding. Most of the new ones are $300 to $350. And many are tagged at $379 to $400, and they actually sell!

Magazines: Taking a chance, I bought a ProMag magazine (with finger extension). I've had some bad experience with ProMag, but this one works great. I now carry it in the pistol instead of the factory mag.

Ammo: Impressively high velocity and energy seem right. But I reloaded some nice hot rounds for practice, and don't find them controllable. Using a mid-range load, I can get 7 rounds right on target really quickly. I find the hot loads much more difficult to control and start spreading them around the target. You make your own choice, but I would rather find the best load that gets 7 rounds on target, and it may not be a super load. I am currently shooting heavier bullets (115g) with modest amounts of fast powder (VV N320). This seems to be the best possible combination for my shooting. Of course, you must make your own choice.
 
Pocket holster: I used a custom leather pocket holster for a while, which was really easy to draw the pistol but it was so stiff that it was uncomfortable. Recently I got a DeSantis Nemesis on sale at MidwayUSA. For comfort I much prefer the DeSantis because it is softer, with a rubberized exterior that sticks to the pocket, but the softness makes it harder to draw cleanly. I need much more practice drawing.
 
I have put about 400 rounds through my LCP with ZERO issues and very acceptable accuracy. For a concealed carry holster I don't think you can beat the Bull Dog Cases Concealed Cell Phone Style Carry Holster. Being on the skinny side, and always in slim cut jeans, I was not able to find a pocket holster that would not print and from which I could quickly and safely draw the LCP.

I paid 299 for mine but it was just a few weeks after it came out. Monday after the shot show I went to my dealer and asked her to order one for me. She ordered 10 of them and sold me the first one that came in. Mine has been quite a shooter and I'm very happy with it. I carry my M&P much more often but I don't feel the least bit bad about times that I carry my LCP. I carry mine in a Kydex holster in my front pocket. You can stand nonchalantly with your hand on your weapon and no one is the wiser.
 
I finially bought one last Saturday for a good price, $275+tax. If Ruger had came out with the LCP before I had bought my Kel-Tec P3-AT, I'd of gotten one sooner. Now that I do have one, I must say I like it, but to be honest it's really no different than the Kel-Tec, other than the LCP looks so much nicer and has that slide lock, which is a plus.
I don't know why the LCP should not be used with +P ammo, but the Kel-Tec can be shot occationially with +P ammo. Go figure! The other thought I had was that, I remember reading somewhere that there is no set of standards for .380 +P ammunition. Although I do have a box of Magtech Guardian Gold .380 +P 85 Gr. JHP's, which list the muzzle velocity at 1082 fps. Now my box of 90 gr. Cor-Bon's do NOT say +P and they are rated at 1050 fps, and the 90 gr. Hornady Critical Defence also NOT a +P, lists at 1000 fps. So what do you really gain, other than more pressure, 32-82 fps more, not a big gain in my book. LM

I emailed Ruger about those Cor-Bons. I mentioned their performance and that it was as good as most +P rounds and that I wanted to know if it was ok to shoot them in my LCP. They replied that it was perfectly fine to shoot the Cor-Bons.
