Ruger M77 MkII compact ideas

Been looking at this rifle in .243. Going to be basically a truck gun, maybe a few deer when season comes up and to shoot at the local gun club.
I like it because of the short barrel and wanting to teach my younger son on it.
Any ideas for a scope? Best place to find one? Locally they are $650.00 and I know that has to be way too much.

I still have the Ruger 243 Win with a 4x fixed power Weaver that I received for Christmas some 15 or so years ago. It has been my main deer rifle since then and have taken many deer with it, in addition to my wife (we won't go into her first deer hunting trip!). It is a fine weapon and I highly recommend it.

The same mags me and EC-10 used, a 10 round M-14 magazine. Remember 243 is based on 308win A.K.A. 7.62x51 NATO, M-14's are chambered for what round???????

Should work on any short action Ruger m77MkII. EC-10's rifle is little more than a compact with a funky scope mount. My rifle is a All Weather sporter.

I would try to sneak one of those used, for 400. Over 6 for a new one is gonna be about right, though. Little too preety for my taste, to be a truck gun, they are beauts.

Would like to find a .243 compact used, thought I found one yesterday but it turned out to be a 7mm-08 and they still wanted $525.00 at a local pawn shop.
