Ruger/Magpul RXM....Coming Soon

Apparently the hardest magazine to reliably manufacture are for .22LR...because of the need to accommodate the rimmed case (part of the reason it took so long for Glock to offer one)
Point taken. The Smith 15-22 does an amazing job, making the cartridges 'splay' as they are loading, plus the mag has some curvature.
The G44 manages the same trick. There was a guy on the Walther board who was somehow grooving PPK/s .22 magazines, to the same purpose. BTW, those mags are expensive.
But the Ruger hybrid, using Glock mags, should have some takers. After the Clinton ban, most of us get nervous about magazines.

I'll probably pick one up eventually--after the bugs have been exposed and the price settled down.

I can shoot Glocks just fine but don't really care for the hump. So have already have added M&Ps and APXs in search of a better fit.

Not sure what all the fuss is about--Ruger and just about everyone else already makes a 1911 and AR15---so adding a Glock clone is just par for the course.

I handled one Friday. It's a pretty nice pistol. I mean, it's hard to get excited about a clone of the most boring pistol on the market but I could see getting one. It was well under $400. Unless I just get another Springfield XD9, the new Mod 3, which is even cheaper.

Not exactly true and taken out of context. In 1994 the votes were there, an AWB of some sort was going to pass. It was just a matter of working out the details. At the time most were pushing for a 7 round mag capacity so as to not ban the 1911. Bill Ruger did use his influence to push for a 10 round mag limit instead of 7. Over the years that was taken out of context and Ruger has been unfairly attacked.
Yep. The Clintons were sponsoring frivolous lawsuits against the industry. Bill Ruger was trying to barter a deal to save the entire industry from bankruptcy. His words were taken out of context in the media and people turned against him for it.

I am curious what other parts will come out. Like the sig, no point in being a chassis system when the slide, barrel and RSA is more expensive than getting a new P320.

Does Ruger plan on making it like lego's? A few slide lengths and a few grip sizes/lengths? Or are they staying one size with slightly different grips.

The Ruger American Pistol is (I think) still in production, but it never seemed to catch on.

Sounds like ruger wants to be qualified for the current military handgun contract specs. The incoming administration may want a domestic manufacturer for strategic purposes.

who knows,

Arent sigs made in new Hampshire? Cannot get more domestic than that.

If you buy an RXM make sure you get the latest user manual.

I've seen reports of errors about screw sizes on the optics mounting pages.

The RXM has been in the pipeline for a while, the person who reported the mistakes on another forum had a manual dated 6/24.

With polymer semi-auto pistols, Ruger has too many models available. Their pocket rockets seem to do well, so I’d keep enough of those models available so as to provide us diverse folks with choices. As far as full size and compacts go, I’d wager that the success of the RXM might influence a decision to streamline production. I can’t recall all the choices they have (Security, American, etc.), but I do recall thinking that streamlining the model offerings (providing that they select the right offerings) would make sense from a production/marketing/overhead standpoint.

I guess I possess an antiquated way of thinking, but I’ve always believed in doing one or two things very well rather than two handfuls of things half-assed.

Unless something unusually severe pops up with the M17/M18 family, it'll probably be quite a few years before a new service handgun is required.

Ruger shoulda stuck with the SR pistol series.
They are highly underrated and lower priced than Glocks.
I bought four of them…..an SR45 and three SR9.

The SR9 was introduced into a sea of arguably better pistols. Nobody that was seriously into pistol shooting gave them the time of day.

Glock ruled the polymer market and the M&P was nipping at it's heels with an innovative approach.

The RXM is one that peaks my interest. I hope to get my hands on one to try in the near future.

The only thing I could foresee likely tanking the M17/M18 within the next 20 years is a procedural/insider trading/conflict of interest scandal regarding the procurement process on how Sig won the contract. Along with the XM7 contract.

Glock lost the Modular Handgun award to SIG, but they sold over 100,000 G19X's within six months. So they probably recouped their investment in the competition (I'm guessing).

Sadly I doubt Beretta could say the same about the APX
The APX (or APX A1 I guess currently) seems to be a decent enough gun. But judging from the rebates and $400-ish pricing, I would imagine it's not exactly setting any sales records.

I bought one. This will be one of the most popular and talked about pistols of 2025. It's that good.

Magpul did a great job on the frame, and Ruger actually made a slide that looks good with good fit and finish. There are also new frame options available from Magpul for $39.95 Currently only black is available. I suspect FDE and OD will follow.

The trigger is excellent and it uses many OEM Glock components. The Magpul mags are not great, though, and I run just the Glock mags, which look better and are easier to load. The sights are high, but they are perfect with my optic and allow me to co-witness the red dot.

I had the chance to handle one at my LGS last week. The texture on the grip was really nice but the ergonomics of the grip felt no better than a full size Glock. (Don't get me wrong, I love my Glocks.)

And for the money, I'll just buy another Glock, or a Smith (who seem to know how to make a grip with good ergonomics.)

I got to handle an RXM today at a gun show. I have decided that I will be buying one. The grip doesn’t fit my hands perfectly but it fits very well. I like the sights. I really didn’t think that I would. The mag release is just okay. The one thing I would like to see is an option to purchase a slightly longer slide release.
The one I handled had a frame that was a dark gray. Much darker than the photos I have seen in ads and on the Ruger site. I liked it. It looked good.

Here’s a photo of the gun I checked out today.

I didn’t buy it. The seller didn’t want me to test the trigger. I said thanks and put it down and walked away.

I did my scam search on them and it appears they’re legit, BUT they apparently add additional charges above and beyond what other sellers do, like extra; credit card fees, handling fees, shipping fees. Several commenters on Reddit said the additional fees still made some buys real bargains so opinions on this site seemed 50/50 - love / hate.

Yesterday, I did a shootout with mine side by side with my gen 5 G19 MOS.

I tested 5 types of commercial defensive ammo at 25yds for 5-shot accuracy and chronographed everything.

Not sure when I'll get the video done since I'm on vacation and didn't bring a laptop for editing.

I will say that the two pistols were very close in terms of accuracy and velocity. It really came down to which defensive ammo you chose.
