Ruger no.1V

I've got the hots for a Ruger no.1V in .223. BUT I'm being told that accuracy is terrible, "bad barrels' and just general disapproval from several different sources.Then other sources are saying that since Ruger now makes their own barrels all problems are solved and it is an accurate rifle. I'm confused.
Does anybody out there have any real experience with this rifle and could give me actual experience. Remember I'm talking about the heavy barrelled varmit version.

the accuracy level corrsponds with the round used..rounds like the 223 and 308 are supposed to be closer to tackdriver status while oddball stuff like 375 and 450 are more minute of elk type accuracy

I wanted one for years always scared off by the horror stories about the accuracy.My son bought a .204 that groups around 1/2 inch so I bought a 25-06 that shoots just as good.I'am sure there are bad ones out there but there are good ones too.If you get ones that doesn't shoot there are lots of sites with tips to help.

mine is in .22-250 with a 6.5 x 20 x 40 Leupold VXIII, 1/2" groups at 100 yards is no problem. I love it for hogs, no problem putting a round thru their ear at 150 yards. sure it is a single shot, but I think that and their beauty is why we love our Ruger No. 1s. I own a few and all are good shooters, I've always heard that with a No. 1 you get what you get and cant do much to get better accuracy, but I aint ever had that problem. my next one will be in 7x57 or 7mm-08.

I have had friends tell me they could not get any accuracy out of a No. 1 and there was very little that could be done to improve them, dont know how hard they tried. Trigger jobs, work on bedding or floating the barrel I do not know about. maybe an email to Ruger will get you an answer, I guess I am lucky cause all mine are shooters but the largest caliber I shoot in a No. 1 is .308.

I have a No. 1 in .30-06. Accuracy is good, not as good as my sub-MOA Remington 700. The trigger is perhaps the best factory trigger I have ever had on a rifle, the only one I have that is better is a Timney I added to a Weatherby. I bought the gun used, don't know whether someone had worked on it.

My brother has one in 6mm that shoots under 1" groups.

Had a friend years ago that was into the Ruger No. 1 rifles. Had quite a few of them. He said the rick to making an accurate rifle out of one that was less than stellar was to experiment with different thickness shims between the barrel and the tip of the fore-end.

ive owned two of them. One a 223 that was a tack driver the other a 22250 that was minute of barn door and was the worse shooting #1 of any kind ive ever owned.

Owned a Ruger #1V chambered in 6mm Rem. Had very hi hopes of tuning some loads for long range coyotes and foxes, couldn't find a bullet it liked. Free floated the barrel, polished the sear surfaces, lightened the hammer, polished the bore with JB bore compound, deburred the muzzle crown, probably did some other stuff that has been forgotten. That was about 15yrs ago, haven't had one since.

A good friend of mine has a #1 in 25-06, Bushnell 4 X 12 on it, what a tack driver. I shot it 3 times, 200 yds., all 3 were touching one another, first time I'd ever shot it. He took an Wyo. antelope @ 350 yds with it, hit it right below the right ear, pretty damned good shot. I wish I had it, heavy barrel also.
