Ruger rifle quality?

I picked up my new RPR rimfire today and got it home and started prepping it for a camo job. I was surprised to find some fairly obvious flaws in the finish that I missed upon initial inspection. And I'm surprised that Ruger let it out the door with those flaws.

Not a big deal since I covered them up with camo, but if I wanted to keep it stock, I would have contacted Ruger for a replacement.

Oh, and a major idiot move on my part...

I took the bolt out, mounted the scope, got everything taped up, and then coated it. I let it dry, then take all the tape off and start to reassemble when I realize that the bolt won't go back in. The giant mounting nuts are in the way. So, now have to remove the scope and mounts, and have the nuts on the other side.

At least it looks cool...

Trey, Glad you got the problems fixed and your good looking finish applied.

I have read about Ruger RPR QA problems, my own experience in QA and accuracy differ. She looks good and shoots well. I'm looking forward to you sharing the sight in results.

Good lookin camo!
I’ve used that kinda stuff to negotiate the price before. And then by the time I finish running it, it definitely looks worse… but the old school walnut and blue is a different story entirely!
Just curious, what’s the shortest lop that drops to?

trey, you are a good sport, so. I bet my 70 year old mossberg 46b shoots as good, lol.
.....like all manufacturers, ruger quality varies.
....just funin.

I bought a Ruger American with a scope already on it and when I was sighting it in I couldn’t get a good group . Dumb me didn’t think to check to see if the scope was moving . When I was cleaning it I heard it rattle and then I saw that they left the rings loose . At least I could fix the problem . I did call them and blessed them out a little bit , but they didn’t care .

This is one of those situations where a slightly cosmetically imperfect rifle went to the right person. Your camo job was meant to be for that rifle.

I will not buy a Ruger single action, without laying hands on it. I ordered a Bisley, 480 Super Blackhawk, several years ago. When I seen it, I was horrified, the grips looked like a monkey, that drank too much Koolaid, spiked with Thunderbird had put them on. The grips were so poorly fitted, the revolver was not even shootable. Grips can be changed and a new set corrected it, and it’s been a fine revolver. On the flip side. I few months ago, I was in my favorite gun shop, and the owner told me he had a rifle he wanted me to see, thought I may be interested. It was a Ruger #1 in 275 Rigby. It had some of the nicest wood on a factory rifle I have seen, lots of grain and character, the bluing was excellent, really well polished, deep and even, it was well fitted and finished all over. It came home with me. This tells me Ruger is very capable of good quality work. There was a time, when you bought a Ruger anything, it was a given. That is not the case now. There can be two identical, single action, more especially, revolvers, sitting side by side in a display case, when you look at them, the quality between the two can be night and day. One can be ready to go out of the box, the other can look like the drunk monkey put it together. With that said, the problem with most likely be cosmetic and a simple fix, with new grips or a little polishing. If it’s not, Ruger will stand by their product and take care of the issue, with no hassle or problem, and their firearms can be counted on to work. Their single actions revolvers are great and will last two lifetimes with just reasonable care. I just wish they would do a better job on grips and cosmetic stuff. Ruger is more than capable.

My 60th anniversary 10/22 came with a front site that was drifted just under a quarter inch off to one side. rear sight was also off center. Shot to point of aim but it bothered me. So I had Randy at CT Precision Chambering true up the action and barrel mating surfaces on the receiver. What a difference. After I got the action back, I drifted the front sight to center, and moved the rear sight to center and it shoots the way it should have from the factory.

Sadly Randy is no longer in business :(

Ruger QC at it's finest.

Nice 10/22, I bought one of those as well, haven't got around to shooting it yet, maybe I'll get lucky on the QC.

My 10/22 Deluxe was good to go and not far behind my Marlin 60 in accuracy . It actually shoots a variety of ammunition more accurately than the 60 .

Two Ruger revolvers and four rifles in the last few months and so far this year. I clean and check screws before use. If that makes me strange , I'll buy that.
My new Chevy PU transmission has already gone out. But this isn't the place to whine about that.
Mass produced stupid truck.

It sure does.

I’m curious. What brand / name of paint did you use and did you clear coat it? I have a Mossberg Patriot I want to dress up a bit.
I used the camo paint available at Walmart and did not clear coat it. I kind of like the worn look it gets over time.

I used different evergreen needles and some fish net fabric I got from the craft store to create the pattern.

Each rifle ends up with different patterns and proliferation of the colors...
