Ruger Security Six 357mag

Nice Security Six, OP. My last few Ruger revolvers have been Six Series including a 2 3/4" SS Security Six I bought myself this Christmas. Continued good luck with yours!

 

Yes they are. I gifted my 1975 production Service Six to one of my sons 30 years ago

 

Don’t forget the Speed Six. I have 2, both NIB with sequential serial numbers.. I’m not going to part with either of them. They are the perfect CCW revolver, IMO.

 

I need to get a trigger job in mine. I sent my GP100 to the gun smith for a trigger and spring job. He made it phenomenal.
That was my mistake. I can't shoot my Security Six very well now because I'm spoiled by the GP100.

 

I've had an example (or two) of all 3 models.
Down to a 6in Security and a 4in Service.
Great revolver's.
They have become quite desirable over the last decade or so.

 

When I bought my first Six Series from Gunbroker @ two yrs ago there were many to choose from at much lower prices. Now there are far fewer Six Series for sale going for hundreds more than when I bought. My last was bought at LGS recently at close to GB price. Glad I got mine when I did.

 

I have a 4" stainless Service Six that my son has talked me out of, and a 2 3/4" stainless Security Six that supposedly was used on a Puerto Rican Coast Guard base. I tried to sell them with no buyers at the time. I am kind of glad no one purchased them.

 

I have a stainless Security -Six 4 inch and a stainless 2 3/4 inch Speed-Six.My heirs can fight over them when I'm gone until then they won't be leaving my possession.

 

My very first DA revolver was a SS Security Six. I
liked it very much.

But all the big boys favored the S&W Model 19. So
naturally I sold the Ruger to get a Smith. I was
satisfied but not by much

But today I smile very much on GP100s. A GP100
with 2.5, 3 or 4.2 barrel all day, any day, every day.

 

Congratulations, you have perfect 6", 357 Magnum revolver; strong, durable, yet not too heavy. I am hoping to get the same. As soon as I have it, S&W 686 will be for sale, too heavy for a caliber. IMO, full underlug makes sense on 4" barrel 357 revolver. On 6" is unnecessary nuisance.

I have found the single action trigger to be ok at best, but the double action trigger to be quite good. Really like the Security Six.

 

I have the spring kits in ours. The triggers are quite nice. The grips were changed out to Pachmyars with the Ruger medallion. The compact grip on hers didn't cover the backstrap and the hogue woods were oversized for me. The hogues were pretty but the Ruger Pachmyars are the perfect fit for both of us. I really need to update a picture with both in it.

 

Had the same SS model back in ‘77. Great shooter. Regretted selling it and bought another, NIB, in 2015, from a relative who bought a gun a week for 20 years. Love it. Never letting it go.

 

The triggers while adequate, are no match for Smith and Wesson, but they're a great all around revolver that can get a lot of different jobs done and last forever. I put a set of elk grips on mine.

 

I bought a Ruger Security 6 used back in the summer of 1979. Third hand -- a friend to a friend to me.

I used that gun when I went through the police academy in 1981 and in the very early part of my police career.

I still have the gun. About five or six years ago I realized that I hadn't shot it in 10 years (!!!) so I retrieved it from the vault to take to the range.

My old duty holster was long gone so I ordered a FLETCH concealment holster from Galco, and some Safariland 371 Split 6 speedloader holders.

I ran a couple hundred full power .357 mag reloads through it at that time, and have since put the gun back on my regular practice rotation. I even shot it at a side match at my USPSA club last winter, with full power loads.

The Security 6 is a strong gun designed to take heavy use firing full power .357 magnum loads.

The coil springs in a Ruger don't provide as smooth a trigger stroke as the leaf springs in the lockwork of a Smith & Wesson, but the design is sound and will last forever.

 

Security Six 357 6" was my first revov!er 45 years ago. Bought it as a hunting sidearm. Still use it for that.

 

I bought both of these second hand in the late 80s. Mine is the blue 357 mag. Wife's is the stainless 38 spl.
They both have really smooth actions.

 

Where did you get the grips for the 6" stainless?

 

I have three of them in different barrel lengths. Shoot heavy loads. Strong guns.

 

I bought them off eBay.

 

My 4 inch Security-Six had been worked over by someone very talented before I got my hands on it. Has a very light creep free single action trigger pull and the double action is the lightest smoothest I've ever had. I'm 67 years old and I've owned lots of revolvers to include a few Colt's and a lot of S&W's and this Ruger has a better SA/DA trigger than any I've ever owned frankly I'm surprised I don't misfires due to light hammer strike but it's never missed a beat and I've owned it well over 30 years.

 

Way back---early 70s if I remember right---bought a brand new Ruger Security Six 4" blued from the old Brass Rail gun store in Hollywood CA (long gone). Just over $107. OTD (still have the receipt somewhere)---a brand new model from Ruger at the time. My first "Real Gun" after a few 22s... This was still in the era of revolvers as the only 9mm auto-pistols around back then were war surplus Browning Hi Powers or P-38s. Over the years, several Security Sixes passed thru my hands, both 4 and 6 inch---blued and stainless---all good guns. I'm down to just one now---a stainless 4" with factory Ruger rubber grips---a real keeper, it ain't going nowhere...
