Than the 4-6" barrel models? A longer barrel means more metal and more metal should mean a higher price, correct?

I can understand how the longer barrel models would be priced lower on the used market (low demand) but a number of places near me sell new guns based on this too.

The shorter barreled versions are probably more in demand so folks will pay a premium price for them.

The demand for used guns will mirror the demand for new ones.

The extra metal probably only add a few pennies to production costs. It may actually be a little cheaper than shorter barrels if it means less waste (scrap) steel.

As for why the price short barrel Rugers are selling for I think most folks find the shorter barrels are easier to carry and better balanced.

I'm just about to the point where I can buy a companion for my Marlin and in perusing gunbroker, I noticed that 7-10" models can be bought for a song used, but they're just a little too ungainly and muzzle heavy for my tastes. If I want a carbine, I'll buy a carbine.

It's like used pickups..where I live shortbed (6') crew-cabs sell for less than same-equipped longbeds (8') new, but shortbeds hold their value longer and sell for more used.

Why do folks pay more for less barrel? Easier to carry, looks, ......and folks don't seem to know what is good.

As a few have stated the short barreled BHs "feel better" in the hand and not as nose heavy as the longer barreled varieties.

The longer sight radius of the nose heavy guns is nice though if you are trying to hit something way out yonder as is the extra few Feet Per Second of velocity when hunting or trying to knock over a steel critter.

Cowboy action shooting is very popular today and it makes the shorter barrel more popular. I have never seen a western movie where the cowboy carried a 10 inch barrel.
