I'm thinking of getting a Ruger Vaquero Stainless 45. Anybody have any experience with this gun? Or maybe other suggestions? It's manly for target shooting.

You have the original Vaquero or the New Vaquero to choose from. The original Vaquero is a little heavier, and better suited for heavy loads. The New Vaquero is slimmed down a bit and is a fine shooter, especially for target loads. They are great guns, very durable and almost fool proof. Patrick aka Executioner

I have an original Vaquero. It is in stainless but is 44 Magnum not 45LC. It has a 5 1/2 inch barrel. It is a fine shooter. It is a bit on the heavy side but fires the magnum loads very well. I love mine. I have never had a problem with it. I did change the small button shaped ejector rod for a cresent shaped ejector rod from Brownell's and changed the wood grips for imitation ivory from Ajax. Wish I had a digital camera and pics to show just how good it looks.

I have an older Vaquero, .45LC in polished stainless with a 5 1/2" barrel. I replaced the grips with a pair of Tru Ivory from Bar S Grips. It shoots as good as it looks and shoots to the POA with both factory ammo and handloads. It never fails to put a smile on my face every time I take it to the range.

I own 2 Vaquero's sin 44 mag, 1 in 45 Colt/45 ACP, and 1 in 44-40/44Spl. All are Vaquero OM is blue/cc and I wouldn't give them up for any reason. I would definetly buy one in SS if the opportunity presented itself. :)

I have a nice collection of Vaquero's, both old and new. The old models are much stronger and will handle those "Ruger only" loads, as where the new models won't. I have a 7 1/2 inch model that I Deer hunt with and a Sheriff's model that I often use as a CCW, and tow NMV's I use for SASS shooting. You won't regret this purchase!;)

Just bought the New Vaquero in 45 Colt with the ACP cyclinder. It is very accuate and POI/POA at 15 yards.I relod and stay with original data or about 860FPS with a 250 grain lead. This is powerful enough for me.

I have an original Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt and two New Vaqueros in 38/357 and all three guns are GREAT. Even though they are not exact clones of the SAA they are great shooters and extremely reliable. If you buy one (or 2 or 3) you won't be disappointed.

I hae a 2003-vintage Vaquero, the 3-3/4" (or so) barrel "Sheriff's Model" in .357. Easier on the hands than I would have thought, particularly when using those 'just-this-side-of-termonuclear' loads.
