Russian AK47 from Atlantic Arms Question:

So what's the deal with Atlantics Saigas feeding properly without a feed-ramp ? Have they altered the rifle in some other way, or simply filed the mag catch and added a few US made parts? I've heard other reports about converted Saigas feeding OK without the ramp installed, but most of what i've read says these are exceptions, and they still won't be as reliable as those with ramps installed. Summoning any and all AK gurus....

We are waiting for Jon _in_wv to give us a range report whenever he gets a chance. Check the saiga forums, I'm sure someone over there has one by now.

Haven't read any posts at S12 forum, we tend to add the guides where applicable... or some buy the magazines that have a higher front end on them like the OEM magazines

Now we have seen that there are ProMag magazines made for the Saiga, Surefire magazines, thermolds and converted steel euro magazines, all of which have a built up front end on them...

These require no guide as it is built into the magazine.

Any updates on this?

I got ahold of customer service, they said they currently have a 2 week backorder.

I haven't received the rifle yet. Blaine at Atlantis said there was a defect on the weapon they were going to ship to me and they chose to wait until their next shipment comes in to send me one that is up to par. At that time he said it would be 7-10 days until they came in. They offered to throw in a 4 pack of 30 round mags for my inconvenience or to refund my money. I told them I would like to keep my order and it was very generous to offer the mags thank you!! I just bought 100 rounds of Wolf and I plan on picking up about 200 more rounds before it comes in. Hopefully I'll be able to get out with it next weekend and try it out with the new mags and a few hundred rounds to see how it works. Most likely I will install the bullet guide later but I want to try it as is first.

Got a call from Blaine today. He said my rifle is in and will ship within a day of so. He also said the bullet guide was NOT necessary with this rifle. WE'LL SEE. I did do a little research and it seems the newer Siagas are thicker at the trunion. This might be why they no longer need the addition of a bullet guide. I plan on shooting it as is and only adding the bullet guide if it becomes a apparent that it needs it. I'll start a new thread for a full review and range report. Thanks.

Looked closer at the feed ramp area looks like they built it up with a spot weld, rifles fire flawlessly and so far we have had no issues, Jon should see his rifle next week and let us know how it works out.

the master molder mags are reported to work just fine without a bullet guide and seem to get good reviews.

does anyone have a link or more info on those mags..??? i have a saiga in .223 but am planning on getting a x39 and i dont want to conver it.

I can't wait. I have 100 rounds of Wolf for the range session. I plan on picking up another 100 rounds before then. I figure 200 rounds is a good start. I wish I had the money to put together the rest of my AR so I could do a head to head comparo.
