I don’t think Yugoslavia will have enough surplus to help this situation in the future. But some is in stock at SGammo at the moment. And some Tula.

Welp, I got what 762x54 I could. Probably not enough. We'll have to see how fast the supply dries up. I wonder if retailers will be stockpiling till September 7th.

This doesn’t directly affect me as my rifles generally don’t agree with steel cased ammo, but it will cause another price spike on everything (I think) so in that sense it affects everyone who shoots regularly. It’s as though Dementia Joe is in cahoots with some of the ammo makers domestically to drive up their prices/profits.

Well, mine do, and for that matter I've found during the past year that my pistols can eat 9mm and .45acp steel without issue too. And certainly my Makarovs had no issue with 9x18.

This goes beyond certain calibers; there isn't (wasn't) a popular caliber that steel-cased wasn't AT LEAST a third cheaper. Many had been half the price of brass. And beyond the cost, consider the quantity... the percentage of ammo available on the US market. What does 9mm look like, if you delete Wolf, Tula, Red Army Standard, etc from the choices?

Oh yea it’s a huge hit overall. Volume wise it will probably be the Delta version of Ammogeddon 2020. I’m bracing for a big jump again.

Ukraine needs all the ammo they can get right now
I suspect Taiwan feels the same way.

And let's go ahead and address the elephant in the room, steel-cased 7.62x39. That has been the lowest priced centerfire ammo since this began. I remember cases being around $200, years ago... it was around that in the early summer of 2020. Don't think it ever went over $400 a case, it was back down under $300 as recently as a couple days ago, and pushing lower. People have not only bought AK's and SKS's, they've been picking up ARs in that caliber because it was the most affordable option out there. Even during the current panic- generic complete lower, $150 or so. BCA complete upper in 7.62x39, under $300, recently under $240. Find a couple Duramags and make sure the firing pin is 'enhanced', and you had a functional rifle + case of ammo for about $700. That's gone now.

.223 from Russia.
It’s far from just SKS, AKM, Mini 30 and some ARs using 7.62x39….and some 5.45x39 in AK-74s .

Without Russian .223, how much of the Total .223 ammo in the US will be gone? And 9mm?

Its plausible that Vladimir Putin will secretly put pressure on Biden to prevent the ban from starting.

——the entire Ban’s Timing is too weird, right when world leaders have been left suddenly in tne lurch by —“Somebody’s”— total neglect of Mike Pompeo’s organized, prepared (written) Plan for withdrawal in Afghanistan——Such strange...Timing ?——-

This is just something else they can do to hurt gun owners in the US. Russia couldn’t care less about our surplus Makarov’s and steel cased .223 habits. I’m sure they will continue to have no problem selling ammo to the world, to include .223 to those in a certain country who just got a massive influx of weapons which fire that cartridge. How ironic.

This is just more anti 2A bs by the administration. In light of certain dumpster fire fiascos happening now, it certainly shows where there priorities are.

@kwguy I couldn't agree more. There are certainly other more meaningful sanctions that could be applied to Russia, but the ban on imports of Russian arms and ammo just happens to align nicely with the left's agenda. If they can't ban guns outright, then try to make gun ownership and use as expensive and inconvenient as possible.

I could imagine production moving to non-sanctioned countries so they could continue to import to USA ....

...in several years. YEARS. Takes time to either start new production or 2) ramp up current production, but if option 2) was viable why didn't they already do it? Oh yes, they did...to the ALREADY maximum they could...

So in the name of international politics, the American shooting public takes the hit.

A plus for the anti gun faction who get to watch shooters scramble for ammo, while the current administration makes like it’s a humanitarian issue, but appeases the antis.

Not bad, win-win for certain factions without saying it’s a 2A thing.

I doubt it will have any impact on ammunition supplies except the boards causing more panic buying. I expect that the only ammunition that will be "banned" for import into the US will be the stuff that's already prohibited. Wolf and others got around the earlier sanctions with their international manufacturing.

OTOH, I expect another "run" on anything associated with Russia. The fact it is manufactured in Taiwan or Serbia or ... won't matter to the buyers.
