S&w 3000

What is a fair price for a model 3000 12 with slug barrel and rifle sights. I saw a nice one on gunbroker, it looks to be in really good shape. Do any of you shotgun guys know anything about these guns? I don't think they have been made in quite a while.

The S&W 916 I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, the 3000s seem to have been pretty decent guns, manufactured in Japan (Howa, I think). They seem to be running about $250-300 most places. They're pretty much an 870 copy, but not a clone.

There's no manufacturer support for them any more, and spare parts and accessories might be difficult to find. They didn't sell for that long a period of time, and there aren't millions of them out there. It's what some people call an orphan design.

IMHO it's mostly a gamble, unless it's a giveaway price.
