S&W 38 first or second model?

I have a top break s&w 38 with no model number the last pat date is may 11&25 1880 the Serial Number is 47253 and it only has one pin in the star ejector. does anyone know what I have?

Need more information because S&W made several different .38 top-break revolvers.

Does your revolver have an exposed hammer that can be cocked with the thumb, or is the hammer inclosed with a grip safety (bar) on the back of the handle?

Is it a double-action or a single-action revolver that must be cocked before it can be fired?

Does it have, or not have a trigger guard?
