I see these in CDNN and have found myself more than once not packing my pistol into parties (holiday season) due to me feeling safe enough not to need it, or into bars etc. I have been leaving the gun in my car but there is a certain paranoia I feel leaving a new Glock 17 or Sig 229 in my car, so I guess what I'm looking for is a beater that is in awsome condition, that's fun enough to shoot to bother to learn to shoot well, and if it gets stolen, I won't be :banghead: the rest of my life.

So I have it narrowed between the 2 Smiths.

The 4043 because it is

1.) light (I will occasionally carry it)
2.) DAO no safeties to fumble with, I do not have a safety on any of my other guns.

3.) Easy to find mags for.
4.) I saw a used one in fair condition in a local shop, I tried the trigger and it was short and smooth, didn't have second strike ability, alot like my Glock.

5.) I particularly like the look of it.

6.) Like new for $279.00

The 5904 which is said to be in "excellent" condition, which may mean somthing else to a CDNN guy than to me. BUT I like:

1.) The fact that it is 9mm, I don't have to spend much to shoot it a lot.

2.) The Tu-Tone looks really nice.

3.) Lots and Lots of cheap high cap mags.

4.) 9mm is my fave caliber.

Downside is the safety, I don't like safeties on my guns.

Ya'll want to give me a hand deciding here?

Edited:

I recently discovered the Daewoo's. New ones are CHEAP but I've hear that getting small minor parts is near impossible if say, you need to replace a spring or somthing.

My questions on this are:

1.) Are holsters and parts hard to find?

2.) How often do they break?

3.) Are they in the same class as S&W autos?

I've got a 4043 (my son's duty weapon, which he bought from his police department when they shifted to SIGs), and a DaeWoo DH-40.

They're both good guns.

If you like the double-action only, go with the 4043. Mags are plentiful and cheap. Some of the ex-police guns come with night sights that still glow.

If you like the DaeWoo's unique tri-action trigger, go for it.

I like it because it lets you carry SA with the hammer down! Cocked and locked, or uncocked and locked, etc -- the safety works in any mode, if that's important to you.) High cap mags are hard to come by. Some parts may be hard to come by, too -- as the DH-40 is slightly different from the DP-51 (9mm) and Numrich only has the 9mm parts in their online catalog. (I think Kimber might be the importer -- you can't get parts from Century, which sells them.)

I can shoot the DH-40 a little better than the 4043, but I haven't shot the DAO gun as much... I put a lighter hammer spring in it, and lightened the trigger a lot, but didn't compromise reliability.

Thanks Walt, I PM'd you about the 4043.....I really like the Daewoo, but lack of any kind of aftermarket or manufacturer support is kind of scary to me. The S&W's have been around for so long, they should have a lot available.

I'm not a big fan of DAO, but the 4043 I saw in a shop that was DAO was old, battered, and ragged, but had one heck of a sweet pull.

What type of springs did you put in yours?

Not to butt in but Walt is a standup guy and the pistol is in good shape. I have seen it with my own eyes and looks like most PD guns carried but not shot a lot.
