I found a S&W 4044 for $375 +tax. The barrel looks good and the condition is good+. I want a single stack for CCW; I don't have any .40 now but that really isn't an issue. Is this a reasonable price and are these reliable pistols. Thanks

Good price on a very scarce S&W 3rd generation pistol. They were only made for one year, 1991 IIRC. TJ

VERY scarce. Reliable like the 4000 series. If you pass on it, I surmise you'll have several PMs wanting to know where they can take a shot at it.

Yes to both! I am a fan of Third Generation S&Ws myself.

Well, I am now the proud owner of a 4044 - $365+tax OTD. I guess I will order a set of dies and some brass and bullets. Vances has one more that I saw and I am sure it could be had for the same price or maybe less because I am not the most astute buyer in the world. I need to pick up a couple more magazines and get some leather for it.

The barrel has some leading in it but the rifling is sharp with no pitting. The frame has some buggered up places on it especially on the recess for the slide lock pin on the side opposite the lever; it looks like the previous owner(s) used a screw driver to press the pin when field stripping. I am anxious to see how it shoots. I bought a box of Silvertip HPs for carry.

Some holster wear and scratches on the frame.

I recently found a S&W 4044 in good condition with 1 magazine for $269. I've been looking for a good budget .40. Does anyone know of a good IWB Holster for it?

I carry my 4043 and 4044 in a Fist ultra thin kydex IWB holster. Cost @ $65 and took about 5 weeks to get. Great holster. That thin kydex almost makes it feel like you're carrying a smaller pistol.
