    S&W revolvers made after 1957 will have the model number stamped on the frame underneath the cylinder yoke. At the risk of spoiling the mystery it would be helpful if you could share some details about the gun, including a partial serial number, finish and barrel length.

    It's stainless with six inch barell behind the cylinder it looks like B BY 09 27

    Sounds like you have a model 629-2.
    If you call Smith in the morning they can tell you when it was made from the serial number.
