S&W 627 speedloaders? Which one?

I'm looking for input on these two types of speedloaders. If anyone can offer any info on their experiences using either of them I'd really appreciate it!


A traditional style speedloader:

I've already tried quick strips and moon clips, but both are a bit too flimsy for my tastes, so I'm looking for something else.

I've not tried them, but I've yet to read a single good thing about those rubber Maxfire's.


Isn't the 627 cut for moonclips?

I like Safariland speedloaders best.

Comp I for J frames, Comp II for larger revolvers and Comp III for competition use.

Neither Safariland nor HKS make an 8-shot speedloader. And there's no 8-shot SL Variant. The Maxfires in the link provided only have 5, 6 and 7-shot capacity. The 5Stars may be the only option other than moons.

They have an 8 shot Maxfire, it's pictured in the link. Anyone ever tried them?

I had the 5 star 'night stand kit' - Santa brought me the 'range kit'. The first kit is a speedloader and a 2 x 8 loading base. The 'range kit' is a pair of speedloaders and an 8 x 8 loading base. Both were $100 - so s/h was free - I think (Santa was involved!). Quality is exquisite - great machining of the Aluminum. They also work quite well, considering the spindly spider legs involved. I now have three speedloaders and the bedside baseplate, kept loaded with +P 158gr LHPSWC's. I have the 8 x 8 plate in my range bag. I still like moonclips, too. My 627 Pro and pair of PC627 UDR's are moonclip ready. There is room here for both!

Will the 627 extract the cases without moonclips?

I've never had luck with the maxfires.

If you think moonclips are too flimsy, than you've been using the wrong kind of moonclips. Get some from Ranch Products. Good quality at a good price. I have literally hundreds of them in assorted calibers.
